Acorn Club meeting

Legion holds dinner
Seaford American Legion, Post 6, Front Street, Seaford, is having an all-you-can-eat dinner on Jan. 10. Cost of dinner is $6, and will consist of chicken, dumplings, and two vegetables.
Sharing Life speaker
Guggenheim Award winner Robert Sward will be the final featured guest of the Sharing Literature, Sharing Life intergenerational literary series sponsored by Sussex County Senior Services, Inc./CHEER. Partly funded by the Delaware Humanities Forum, the series will conclude with Sward’s presentation on Sunday, Jan. 12, at 3 p.m. at the CHEER Community Center in Georgetown.
Born on the Jewish North side of Chicago, Robert Sward began writing poetry at age 15 when he was a member of a gang of young punks called the Semcoes. His job was to write postcards to inform his brother thugs where and why they were meeting.
After graduating from high school, Sward joined the Navy. While at sea, he began writing poems. In 1962, Putnam in England published his book,
‘Uncle Dog and Other Poems.” Tickets are $10 per person. Guests can meet him at the private reception for an additional $15. For more information about the series, call 856-5187.
Sussex County Volunteer Firemen’s Association Ladies Auxiliary meeting will be held on Jan. 15, at Ellendale Volunteer Fire Department, Ellendale. Dinner will be at 7 p.m. with meeting following at 8 p.m.
Philadelphia Flower Show
Seaford Department of Parks and Recreation trip to Philadelphia Flower Show, on March 8, will leave Seaford at 6 a.m., and leave Philadelphia to come home at 4 p.m. Price includes ticket to the show and transportation on a motor coach. Cost is $31.50 for adults and $24 for children under 12. Call 629-6809 for tickets and information.

Lions Basket Bingo
The Seaford Lions Club will hold a Longaberger Basket Bingo on Thursday, Jan. 23, starting at 7 p.m. at the V.F.W., located on Middleford Road in Seaford. The evening will consist of 20 exciting games and will feature several baskets including the Small and Large Sweetheart combos, Small Storage Solutions, Saffron Booking, and several regular line baskets as prizes.
Advance tickets are $20 per person, $25 at the door. Advance ticket includes a chance to win the Hostess Large Hamper or numerous other door prizes. Nearly 30 chances to Win! Refreshments will be available. For ticket information contact the Lions member Jeff Allen at 302-628-8887.
NLL Basket Raffle
The Nanticoke Little League is sponsoring a Longaberger Basket Raffle. One $5 ticket buys you 28 chances to win a new Longaberger Basket.
Baskets include the Small and Large Sweetheart baskets, Easter Basket combos, Tarragon Booking basket and several others. The raffle will be held Feb. 1-28. If the number on your ticket matches the Delaware Lottery Play 3 evening drawing number, you win a basket.

Babies and Toddlers
The “Parents As Teachers” program invites parents and their children from birth to age three to a free “Stay and Play Center” at Seaford Dept. of Parks & Recreation (SDPR) on Virginia Avenue. Sessions are on Mondays from 10:30 a.m. to noon. (Closed on school holidays.)
