Starting Friday, Feb. 6, AARP will do free tax preparation for senior citizens and low-income families. Call Delmar Library, 846-9894 to set up an appointment. Taxes will be done until the first week in April.
The Delmar Library is starting a new monthly craft program for adults once a month. There is no admission fee. If anyone is interested, call Sharon at the library for the date and time. This is for people who want to participate or are interested in sharing a craft with others.
The Eastern Shore Stamp Club and the Delmarva Coin Club will have their annual shows on Sunday, Feb. 8, at the Civic Center in Salisbury. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Danang and Normandy rooms. Admission will be free. Features will include a dealer’s bourse, displays and refreshments.
David Bradshaw was the winner in the school level championship of the National Geography Bee after a hard fought competition with Josh Vincent and Marshall Vernon. Other top finishers included Kristin Brannock, Caitlyn Cooper, Meagan Reed, Scott Slavens, Kaitlyn Smith, Erin Thomas and Scott Tull.
The Middle School Math League Team tied for first place in a meet held Jan. 7. This pushed the team to second place overall, up from third in the standings. Scott Slavens and Wes Breda are tied for the title of top scorer in Region 9.
Brianne Burdette and Ashley Johnson have qualified for Senior High Delaware All-State Chorus. Megan Reed and Kaitlyn Smith qualified for the Junior High All-State Chorus. This represents the largest number of Delmar students to qualify.
The school-wide food drive collected an unbelievable 10,435 items for distribution. This was more than three times the target amount.

Club hears from former state rep

The New Century Club of Delmar held its first meeting of the year on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the Masonic Temple in Delmar. Club member and program chairman for the meeting Jessie Calloway introduced Shirley Price as the guest speaker. Price served as a Delaware Representative for the 38th district from 1996 until 2002. She and her husband have a retail business in Ocean View.
Price is also a real estate agent for the ReMax real estate company and is a member of the ladies auxiliary of VFW Post 7324. Price spoke to the group about the positive things women can bring to government. She mentioned the roles women have in their lives and the how their personal experiences can be helpful in political experiences. Price was the author of a bill for health issues for small businesses and individuals.
During the business meeting, president Lois Webster announced that Federation Day will be March 6 in Dover. The membership luncheon will be March 17 at Bay Center. The HOBY conference will be March 26-28 at Brighton Suites Hotel in Rehoboth.
