‘Project Childsafe’
The Laurel Police Department has joined police departments nationwide in supporting “Project Childsafe.” “Project Childsafe” is a nationwide program whose purpose is to promote safe firearms handling and storage practices among all firearm owners through the distribution of key safety education messages and free gun locking devices. The program is supported by a U.S. Department of Justice grant, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, and is a component of Project Safe Neighborhoods. The goal of “Project Childsafe” is to reduce the number of firearm related unintentional injuries and deaths by making firearm owners aware of the importance of handling firearms safely and storing them in a secure manner. “Free” gun locks can be picked up at the Laurel Police Department or by contacting Detective Wilson at 875-2244.
