Valentine’s Day Dance
A Valentine's Day Dance will be held on Friday, Feb. 14, from 8 p.m. to midnight at the CHEER Community Center, Sand Hill Road, Georgetown. The dance is open to the public and all ages. Dance with your darling on Valentine’s Day to the upbeat tunes of “The Cruzers.” Call 854-9500.

Ducks Unlimited event
The Nanticoke Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold its Annual Winter Event at 6 p.m. at the Seaford Fire Hall on Saturday, Feb. 15. The event’s aim is to raise monies for the preservation of waterfowl habitat both locally and throughout North America. Special live and silent auctions will be offered as well as three raffles. Two nationally known comedians, Marty Uhlman and Mary Francis Connelly, will perform stand-up routines followed by Ray Cannon’s Nite-Life Band. Tickets are $50 per couple and available from any Committee member or at Autumn Bay or Clark’s Pools in Seaford.

‘Alumni Walk of Success’
The nomination period for the Alumni Walk of Success at Delaware Tech, Owens Campus, Georgetown, began on Feb. 1. Nominations will be accepted until April 15. Nominees must be graduates of an associate degree or diploma program at Delaware Technical & Community College or the Delaware Tech/University of Delaware Parallel Program at the Owens Campus. Eligibility begins five years after graduation. Honorees will be selected on the basis of their academic and career achievements, community service, and other significant contributions. Current Delaware Tech employees are not eligible for nomination. Republicans’ Dinner
Western Sussex Republicans’ Lincoln Day Dinner to benefit Bill Lee for Governor on Monday, Feb. 24, at RJ Riverside Restaurant, Laurel. Social hour begins at 6 p.m., dinner starts 6:30 p.m.Bill Lee will be the guest speaker. For ticket information, call Vance Phillips at 542-1501.

Lincoln collection special
To celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s birthday and President’s Day, the Lincoln Collection of the University of Delaware will have special openings on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 16, from noon to 4 p.m.; and Monday, Feb. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The film “Face of Lincoln” will be shown on Sunday. Among the many displays are photographs and engravings, copies of formal documents, informal notes written by Lincoln. The Lincoln Collection is located in the Goodstay Center on the Wilmington Campus of the University of Delaware, 2600 Pennsylvania Ave., Wilmington.

Photographers convention
Delaware Professional Photographers will hold its annual convention on Sunday and Monday, Feb. 16 and 17, at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover. Dennis Kelly, sponsored by FujiFilm, will start the convention on Sunday with the subject, “Workflow: The Key to Digital Success.” During the program there will be a hand-on session where the participants can use digital equipment and print photographs on the spot. The speaker on Monday will be Calvin Hayes, sponsored by Kodak, speaking on wedding photo-journalism. He is much in demand by an elite and celebrity clientele for his unique wedding imagery, as well as photographic organizations for his teaching ability. Relay for Life
American Cancer Society West Sussex, Relay for Life Team Captains Meeting #1, on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 6:30 p.m., at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Medical Staff Conference Room, (Lower level).

International Women's Day
Reservations are currently being taken for the 9th annual International Women’s Day Celebration on March 5, at the Baycenter in Dewey Beach. The theme for this year is “Women in Business who Mean Business” and we are honoring Pat Batchelor, owner of East Coast Property Management, in Seaford and Yrene Waldron, executive director of Health Care Facilities Association. Mardela Bingo series
Mardela High School Band-Aides Inc. is holding a series of Bingo events to benefit the Mardela Middle and High School Bands and Band Front. Bingos are scheduled for Feb. 15 and 22. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the first game begins at 7 p.m. in the Mardela High cafeteria.

AARP Chapter meeting
AARP Chapter 1084 meets Thursday, Feb. 13, at 1:30, at the Methodist Manor House. Ralph Keene, noted local photographer, will present color slides of America’s Western states. Visitors are always welcome.

Sunday Breakfast Buffet
An All-You-Can-Eat Sunday Breakfast Buffet will be served by the Galestown Ruritan Club on the fourth Sunday of each month October -May, 7-10 a.m., at the Galestown (Md.) Community Hall. This month it will be held Feb. 23. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 children 6-12 years of age. The buffet features pancakes, eggs, scrapple, sausage, creamed chipped beef, biscuits, potato casserole, hominy, fruit cup, and sticky buns.

Choral Society rehearses
The Southern Delaware Choral Society has resumed its rehearsal schedule. The 75-voice choir is preparing for a performance of the Mozart “Requiem” to be presented May 17, 18, at Delaware Tech in Georgetown. New singers are welcome. Call 227-2227 for details
