Recent weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wheatley were their daughter, Celeste and her friend, David Lewis of Chicago, Ill.

A group of 25 Sycamore 4-H Club members enjoyed a ski trip to Big Boulder, Pa., in the Pocono Mountains on Saturday, Feb. 1. The “kids” really enjoyed themselves and there are no major catastrophes to report here — just lots ‘n’ lots of cold fun!

The Laurel New Century Club held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Following a buffet lunch at RJ Riverside and usual business meeting (old and new), the ladies were introduced to Laurel’s new town manager, Glenn Steckman, who duly impressed the members with his background and his agenda for the future of our town. This group, if you have not read it before in our column, is sponsoring a musical evening with the Tri-State Chorus at the Dover Modern Maturity Center this Friday evening, the 14th. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Food Bank and Abused Children.

A Valentine birthday wish goes to Mark Elliott in Tampa, Fla., Feb. 14. I understand that Mark reads our Star from page 1 — every week. Have a great one, Mark!
Another “Near-Heart” birthday wish to Elizabeth Hill, who will celebrate hers on Feb. 15.

And we have added an extra Feb. 15 birthday wish to Joan Kirk with love from grandchildren, Brittany, Samantha, Jenna and Caleb.

Wedding anniversaries to note this week are the 18th year for Emersine and Carl Cropper, on Feb. 14, and to Lenny and Gail Hicks that same day, as they are celebrating 19 years since wedding bells rang for them.

Happy 58th wedding anniversary to Franklin and Kathryn LeCates on Feb. 18.

To all interested students, please remember that the Laurel School applications for scholarships will become available on March 1. The deadline for these to be submitted and postmarked is April 1. If received after that date they will not be considered.

A reminder to all procrastinating males in our area — Friday is Valentine’s Day. Better quickly acquire flowers, jewelry or candy for your “lady” to whet her romantic appetite!

We express our sympathy to the family and friends of Evangeline Truitt and Reuben Carey.

Our prayers and concerns for those who are ill: Emma Wootten, Sherry Scanlon, David West and Anne Nipe.

“From what we get we can make a living; what we give, however, makes a life.”

See you in the Stars.
