Legion holds Easter Egg Hunt March 31
The Laurel American Legion will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, March 31, at 1:30 p.m. at the Laurel Middle School. Children 12 years of age and under are invited to participate.
There will be prizes galore.
Benefit Dance April 6
A benefit dance will be held on April 6, from 7-11 p.m., at the Laurel Legion Post. The band “Savannah” will be playing and we will be having auctions, food, door prizes, etc. Call 875-5961 for tickets. Cost is $15 per couple; $8 single. Johnson was seriously injured in November and unable to work for one year.
Library celebration March 28
Join Laurel Public Library for a special pre-Easter Celebration! On Thursday, March 28, at 6:30 p.m. Family Story Hour and an Easter craft for children of all ages. Interested children are invited to read a brief story or poem. Refreshments will be served. Call 875-3184.
The Laurel Library will be closed on Friday, March 29, for Good Friday.
Laurel schools closed
Laurel School District will start Spring Vacation on March 29, when schools will be closed. They reopen April 8.
Bingo for Binky Johnson
“Bingo For Binky” — A bingo basket party will be held for Binky Johnson, May 8, at the Laurel Fire Hall. Game time is 6:30 p.m. All proceeds will benefit Binky, who is recuperating from a hunting accident. If you would like to help sell tickets, offer basket contributions, cook desserts, or help that evening, contact Marsha Murphy at 875-6155 or 875-2450.
Pageant deadline April 15
Applications can be found at the following place for Little Miss Laurel and Miss Laurel Pageant: Todd’s Income Tax Services; Laurel High School, Wilmington Trust Bank, and Laurel Library; or call 875-7114. Parents get busy to have your daughter in the pageant. Deadline is April 15. The Laurel Exchange Club is sponsoring this pageant again for the 52nd year.
Club offering scholarship
The Laurel Civic Club is offering a $1000 scholarship. This scholarship is given in memory of Robert Ellis. This scholarship is to assist a student with strong community service. Graduating seniors that reside within the Laurel School District, but not necessarily attending Laurel High School are eligible. Applications are available at the Laurel High School, Sussex Tech High School, and the Laurel Public Library. Contact Freddie Brock at 875-3271 for additional information.
Lions Club variety show
This year’s Laurel Lion’s Club variety show, “A Night At The Races,” will be held on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, April 4, 5, 6, at the Laurel High School. All shows start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are: Adults $5, and Children 12 and under $4. Tickets are available from Farrelly’s Plumbing and Heating, The Insurance Market, and O’Neals Jewelry in Laurel. Tickets are also available from all Laurel Lion’s Club members, and at the door. Proceeds from the show go to all local, national, and international Lion’s projects.
New Century Card Party
The Laurel New Century Club is holding a fundraising Spring Dessert/Card Party on Tuesday, April 9, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Centenary United Methodist Church’s Fellowship Hall. Bridge, canasta, other card games, board games and dominos can all be enjoyed.
