New gift shops opening
Seaford Historical Society members Diane Rosetta and Phyllis Wilson are making arrangements for two gift shops, one at the Ross Mansion and one at the Seaford Museum on High Street. They are looking for pieces of furniture on which they can display gift items in a creative fashion. Examples would include book cases, shelves, old cupboards, old sideboards, anything that will make a unique presentation. For details, call Diane Rosetta at 629-3339 or Phyllis Wilson at 629-2119. Pick-up and transportation can be arranged.

Class of ’72 planning reunion
The Seaford High School class of 1972 is planning a reunion. Members who know the whereabouts of a member of the class may call Tom Makowski at 629-0179.

SHS commencement Friday
Seaford High School will hold its commencement at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 31, at Bob Dowd Stadium on North Market Street. Sen. Joseph Biden and teacher Stephanie Smith will speak. Tickets will be required for the commencement. In case of bad weather, the ceremony will be in Madden Auditorium at the high school.

Pony club plans car wash
Briarhook Pony Club of Seaford is sponsoring a car wash Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Petra and Sons Mobile Station on Stein Highway in Seaford. Call 628-9799 for details.

Pool memberships available
The Seaford Department of Parks and Recreation is taking pool memberships for the summer season. The pool offers swimming lessons and is available for rent for parties. It sponsors Teen Splash parties throughout the summer. Call the recreation office at 629-6809 to register.
City offering summer program
The Seaford Department of Parks and Recreation is sponsoring its Summer Playground for children in grades one through six again this year. Included will be field trips, bowling, swimming and trips to the new Jay’s Nest Playground. Cost is $45 per child per week and $40 per child per week if there is more than one child from the same family. For more information call the recreation office at 629-6809.

Snethen Church social set
The annual Snethen Church Social will be Saturday, June 8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring oyster and chicken salad sandwiches, hamburgers and hot dogs, oyster and chicken salad platters, baked goods, vegetable soup, dumplings and homemade ice cream. The church is located on Delaware 54, Mardela Springs, Md., (8 miles west of the US 13 stoplight at Delmar.)

Dog match to be June 9
The Mispillion Kennel Club is hosting an AKC-sanctioned dog match Sunday, June 9, at the Slaughter Beach Fire Company grounds. The match will begin with four levels of dog obedience competition at 9 a.m. Three classes of junior showmanship, for young handlers under 18 years of age, will begin at 10:30 a.m. Conformation exhibition, starting with 3-month-old pups, will begin at 11 a.m. The match will be held outdoors, rain or shine. Admission for spectators is free.

Elks host Wednesday Bingo
The Seaford Elks Lodge has bingo every Wednesday evening beginning at 7:30. Food is available.

Riverfest sign-ups now
Entries are being sought for the Nanticoke Riverfest Little/Junior Miss Pageant and youth fishing tournament, both part of the Riverfest planned for June 21 and 22. Contestants for the Little Miss Riverfest pageant must be between 3 and 6 and those for the Junior Miss Riverfest must be between 7 and 10. The pageant will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 22. The cost to enter the pageant is $5. All who participate will receive a gift bag. Participants in the fishing tournament must be between 3 and 12. There is no entry fee. The tournament will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Those who sign up in advance will receive a gift bag.
