Laurel Fourth of July 4
The Laurel Chamber of Commerce is making plans for the 4th of July celebration. Red-White-and Blue will be the colors throughout town Friday, July 4. The ninth annual Independence Day celebration will get off to a start with the traditional prayer breakfast at 8 a.m. along Broad Creek, catered by Emmings. Tickets, $10 each, are available only in advance through chamber board members. The Red-White-and Blue Parade, featuring local entries and Uncle Sam, will start at 10:30 a.m. The day will feature a 5K run and walk, games, art show, a local talent show, a moon bounce and water slide, Lollipop the clown, musical entertainment, a dunking booth, a car show, crafts and food. The event will end at dusk with a fireworks display. Parade applications will be available at the library, chamber office and Laurel Fire Department. Line-up will begin at 8 a.m. at Evergreen and Oak. Application deadline is June 30. For more information contact Dean Culver at 875-3947. Fashion Show & Tea
The 2003 AFRAM (African American) Festival committee is holding a Fashion Show and Tea on Saturday, June 7, 2-4:30 p.m., at St. Luke’s Parish Hall, North Street, Seaford. Tickets are $10 per person. Tickets will be available to win a “Cultural Quilt.” Each ticket is just $2 and three tickets are only $5. The fundraising activities will help defray costs associated with the 6th Eastern Shore African-American (AFRAM) Festival Aug. 8-9, at Nutter Park on Collins Avenue, Seaford. Also, the festival committee is looking for contestants in grades 3 through 5 for “Little Miss and Little Mister AFRAM.” Junior contestants in grades K through 2 can compete for the titles of “Jr. Little Miss and Jr. Little Mister AFRAM.” The pageant is scheduled for 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 8. Participants will be judged on talent, attire and an interview. The entrance fee is $20. For information and registration forms, call 628-1908.

DU Summer Party
The Nanticoke Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold its 5th Annual “Summer Party” at the Ross Mansion in Seaford on Saturday, June 14. Funds raised go toward habitat preservation for local waterfowl. The gate opens at 4 p.m. and will feature tropical refreshments, generous buffet, silent and live auctions, live musical entertainment provided by “Bitter Creek” and “The Funsters” with special guests. ‘Everlife’ Concert June 7 “Everlife,” with special guest Michael Joseph, will be live in concert on Saturday, June 7, at Laurel Wesleyan Church, 30186 Seaford Road, Laurel, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8. For more information about the concert call 644-0574.
Chicken Barbecue June 7
A Chicken Barbecue will benefit the Sussex Chix 14 and under softball team. The Sussex Chix will be having a Chicken Barbecue on June 7, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at Cock and Bull, Rt. 13 south. Food includes: 1/2 chicken, roll, chips, and pickle. Cost is $5 per person. Come and support our local girls

Riverfest Pageants
Nanticoke Riverfest is now seeking contestants for both the Little Miss Riverfest and Junior Miss Riverfest pageants. The cost is just $5 and entries are due by June 30. The pageants will take place on Saturday, July 12, at 10 a.m., in conjunction with the Nanticoke Riverfest. Contestants in the Little Miss pageant must be between the ages of 3-6. Basket Bingo June 11
A Longaberger Basket Bingo, sponsored by the Sussex Tech Class of 2004, will be held at Sussex Tech High School, Route 9, Georgetown, on Wednesday, June 11, 7 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. For tickets call 856-9061 or 629-3543. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Baskets include the Mother’s Day Basket, the Proudly American darning, Spring, and Button Baskets plus $1 tickets to win drawing for Laundry Basket w/Lid. The evening will also include door prizes, the Longaberger Basket with clock lid raffle, 50/50 drawing, refreshments and Chinese Auction with fabulous prizes donated by various businesses.

Rise ‘n’ Shine June 12
The Greater Seaford Chamber of Commerce presents Rise ‘n’ Shine Breakfast, Thursday, June 12, at Pizza King Banquet Room, 300 W. Stein Highway, Seaford, 7-8 a.m. Cost is $4.50 per person, including gratuity. Sussex County Administrator Robert L. Stickels will share his proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Equine meets June 16

Youth Fishing July 12
Nanticoke Riverfest is seeking entries for the Youth Fishing Tournament. There is no charge to enter the tournament, which will take place on Saturday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at the Riverwalk in conjunction with the Nanticoke Riverfest.
