Riverfest announces entertainers

There will be entertainment on three stages to suit everyone's taste at the eighth annual Nanticoke Riverfest on Friday, June 21, and Saturday, June 22. The entertainment schedule will start on Friday at 4 p.m. and end on Saturday at 8 p.m. Stage 1 is on the Miller Lot on Water Street, Stage 2 is on the Blades Causeway, and Stage 3 (the Children's Stage) is in Blades across from the new marina. All entertainment is free. No alcohol is permitted. Vendors and displays will be set up along High Street in downtown Seaford, at the Seaford Fire Hall, around Gateway Park, and on the Blades Causeway. The carnival will be located on the lot at the intersection of High and Market streets. The featured entertainers will be Mike Hines & The Look on Friday from 8 - 11 p.m. and Randy Lee Ashcraft on Saturday from 8 - 11 p.m. For more than a decade, Mike Hines & The Look was the hottest band in the region performing four nights a week in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. During the time period, the band was voted the Best Band in Delaware and as one of the three Top Party Bands in the Delaware Valley. The Eastern Shore’s own Randy Lee Ashcraft performs more than 100 shows a year in venues from New Jersey to the Caribbean. He has opened for national acts including Doug Stone, Allison Kraus, Marty Stuart, Toby Keith, George Jones, Travis Tritt, and Swayer Brown. He was the national winner of the True/Value Jimmy Dean Country Music Showdown and he and his band were the first country act to ever be named winner of the Independent Music World Series, a talent competition featuring bands that record and distribute their albums independently. See a special pullout section in next week’s Star for a complete schedule of events.

Other event highlights include an antique tractor show, a canoe and kayak race (10 a.m. on Saturday), carnival rides and games, the All American Car Show sponsored by the Southern Delaware Street Rod Association, the Nanticoke Float-In (6 p.m. on Saturday), the 5K Duck Dash (8:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Boys & Girls Club), a 50-vendor arts and crafts show, more than 25 food vendors, a youth fishing tournament (10 a.m. on Saturday), health screenings by Nanticoke Hospital, a Home & Trade Show (Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.) sponsored by the Seaford Kiwanis Club, a NASCAR driving track, and much more. Floaters are urged to have their floating devices ready before registration. The Riverfest Committee has a limited number of tubes (like those at waterparks) for sale at city hall for $5. The cost to float this year will be $1 per person. Any type of non-motorized floating device is permitted in the Nanticoke Float-In.
