Pageant set for July 4th
In conjunction with Laurel's Fourth of July celebration, County Bank is sponsoring
a Little Miss Independence pageant for girls ages 2 to 4. Pat Murphy as "Uncle Sam"
will be master of ceremonies. Geraldine Taylor will be "Betsy Ross" and she will
take care of escorting the children. Spaces are available for 15 candidates.
Applications are available at County Bank in Laurel.
The winner will receive a crown and trophy from MCM jewelers, a stuffed animal
from Empress Doll Boutique and a $100 savings bond from County Bank. First
runner-up will receive a trophy, a stuffed animal and a $50 savings bond.
The four judges will be associates from County Bank. Dukes Lumber Company will
provide a truck for Uncle Sam, Betsy Ross and all candidates to ride in the parade.

Camp Joshua to play at cafe
This month's Vertical Connection - All About You Cafe will feature the music of
Camp Joshua on Friday, June 16, from 7 to 10 p.m. All About You Cafe is a
Christian coffeehouse for college and career singles ages 18-25. The coffeehouse
features live music and meets on the third Friday of the month at Travel Perks,
in Laureltowne on Front Street in Laurel. The Cafe is a ministry of Gumboro

Lioness announce scholarships
The Laurel Lioness Club has announced the recipients of its annual scholarships.
Scholarships, each in the amount of $500, were awarded this year to Blair Hall
and Carol Weber. Scholarships for $250 were also awarded to Sara Phillips and
Sabrina Whaley. These were given in memory of Jewel Hickman, a former Laurel
Lioness member, and were handed out by the family of Mrs. Hickman.
