Churches plan Bible school
The Laurel Ministerial Association will hold vacation Bible school at the following churches:
- New Zion U.M.C. will hold Bible school June 23 through 27. Sessions will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. For details, call the church, 875-0727.
- Centenary U.M.C., June 23 to 27. The theme will be Son Harvest County Fair. Sessions will be 9 to 11:45 a.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For details, call 875-3983.
- Church of the Nazarene, Aug. 4 to 8. The theme will be Scuba. Sessions will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For details, call 875-7873.
- Christ United Methodist, July 14 through 18. The theme will be Scuba. Sessions will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For details, call 875-4233.
- Mount Pleasant UMC July 7 through 11. The theme will be Son Harvest County Fair. Sessions will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For details, call 875-1045.
- Mount Zion UMC, Aug. 11 through 15. The theme will be Treasures of the Nile. Sessions will meet from 9 a.m. to noon. For details, call 875-3628.
Centenary plans Bible school
Centenary United Methodist Church in Laurel will hold vacation Bible school from June 23 through 27. Children from age 4 through the sixth grade are welcome.
This year’s program is called Son Harvest County Fair and features a week of lessons following a country farm theme.
The morning session will be held from 9 to 11:45 a.m. Enrollment for the morning will be limited to 140 children.
An evening session will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Teens who have completed grades 7 through 12 will be held in the evening only. An adult session for couples will also be held in the evening.

Bridgeville service planned
The second annual Bridgeville community worship service will be held at Woodbridge High School Auditorium, 307 Laws St., Bridgeville, on Sunday, June 29, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Guest speaker will be David Manley, who will portray a biblical character. Music will be provided by community churches.
Last year, about 700 people attended the service.
Bethel Charge plans dinner
Bethel Charge, made up of the Portsville, Mt. Zion and Bethel churches, will hold a crab cake dinner at the Mt. Zion community house, Laurel-Seaford Highway, Saturday, June 21, noon to 5 p.m. Platters are $9, and include crab cakes, cole slaw, string beans, potato salad, rolls, cornbread, dessert and beverage. Crab cake sandwiches will be sold for $5.
Wilson re-appointed to Laurel
At the Methodist annual conference held at Princess Anne, Md., on June 5, 6 and 7, the Rev. Barbara Wilson was appointed to continue to serve as associate pastor at Christ United Methodist Church in Laurel.
Wilson served as pastor at Kings, St. George’s and Mt. Pleasant churches and as associate pastor at St. John’s in Seaford before going to Christ Church last year. She is a former school teacher and retired department chairwoman at Delaware Tech.
Wilson did her undergraduate degree work at Western Maryland College and holds a master’s degree from Salisbury State University. She has also done further studies at Duke University.
Christ UMC plans new service
Christ United Methodist Church in Laurel will start a summer “come as you are” contemporary service on June 22, at 8:45 a.m. The service will feature familiar hymns along with a short devotional and time of prayer.
Wesley plans gospel concert
A gospel concert with Grady Tucker (vocalist and guitarist), Leslie Schiff and John Beauchamp will be held on Sunday, June 22, 7 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 6304 Eldorado Road, (Route 313) near Eldorado, Md. The church is about 1 mile south of the intersection of routes 313 and 392.
Ark plans Bible school
The Ark (Seaford Wesleyan Church) is holding its vacation Bible school June 29 through July 3, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The theme is a Super Cool Undersea Bible Adventure (Scuba). For more information, call the church at 628-1020.
Church to celebrate July 4
Good Samaritan Christian Fellowship Church of Seaford is planning a celebration of Independence Day, Sunday, July 6. The morning service beginning at 11 a.m. will feature gospel singing by the Cash Family of Felton.
In the afternoon, the church will have a barbecue lunch.
There will be swimming for the children, a dunking tank, a moon bounce, snow cones and games.
In the evening, the church will hold a free outdoor concert including include a puppet show for children, gospel bluegrass, the Cash Family, the CROSS Club from the church and members of the church.
New Zion to host concert
The Men and Women of Batts Neck, Kent Island, Md., will perform Sunday, June 22, 4 p.m. at New Zion United Methodist Church, 428 West St., Laurel. Tickets are $3 and are available from members of the New Zion senior choir. For details, call 875-3998.
Laurel Baptist plans school
Laurel Baptist Church, 1.5 miles south of Laurel on alternate US 13, will hold its vacation Bible school Monday through Friday, June 23 through June 27, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Opening night will be Sunday, June 22, 5 to 7 p.m.
