Five boys from Boy Scout Troop 174 participated in a 10-mile bicycle trip Saturday morning to work on their Cycling Merit Badge. The boys were L.J. Watts, Colby Watts, Will Griswold, Michael Parsons and Tyler Hill. The boys and their leaders traveled from the Scout House in State Street Park out Line Road to Pepperbox Road and then on to their Scoutmaster’s house near Trap Pond. To earn this badge, the boys will have to take three trips of 10 miles, one of 25 miles, and finish up with a 50-mile trek that has to be completed in under eight hours. They will also have to learn about first aid, bicycle maintenance, and the rules of the road for cyclists. There are about 10 boys in the troop working on this particular badge, with several more 10-milers planned, and the boys doing some research to determine where they want to go for the 25- and 50-milers.
