Laurel history being reprinted
The Laurel Historical Society, Inc. is offering a reprint of Harold Hancock’s “The Nineteenth Century Laurel.” The book chronicles Laurel’s growth and development from being a “wading place” on Broad Creek, used first by members of the Nanticoke tribe and later by early settlers, into a full-fledged community. A number of Laurelites are acknowledged for their various contributions to the town in this 8 and 1/2- by 11-inch book, with more than 430 pages.
A copy sold for more than $100 at a recent auction. The last printing of the book was in 1985.
Through this printing, 500 books will be issued. Cost is $45, $5 extra to have the book mailed. To order a book, mail payment noting “re-print” on the check to: Laurel Historical Society Inc., P.O. Box 102, Laurel, DE 19956. The historical society predicts that the books will be available by early fall. For additional information, call Linda Justice at 875-4217 or Edna Marvil at 875-9427.
