AFRAM Festival August 8 - 9
The 6th Eastern Shore African-American (AFRAM) Festival will be held in the newly named Nutter Park on Collins Avenue, Seaford, Aug. 8-9.
The purpose of the extraordinary event is to strengthen our community through cultural awareness by exhibiting a heritage of unity, success, diversity and pride.
The AFRAM Festival will provide two glorious days of cultural vendors, Little Miss and Little Mister AFRAM pageants, ethnic foods, drummers, dancers, comedians, games, car show, parade and more. For details call 628-1908.
Second Street Players
A Ray Cooney farce, “It Runs in the Family,” warms up the summer entertainment season at Second Street Players Riverfront Theatre in Milford. Opening Friday; July 11, the comedy runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday through July 20; tickets are now on sale.
Directed by Pat Erhardt, the play features a family that suddenly learns that dear father has a previously unknown love child, an 18-year-old son who is eager to meet his papa.
Dr. Mortimore is all set to be knighted and named head of his hospital when an old flame flares up with the news of the now-grown babe.

Senior citizens, students and military families with ID pay a discount price of $11 for Sunday matinees. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m.; Sunday matinees, 3 p.m.
Festival & Craft Fair
CHEER is accepting booth registrations from craft vendors for the First Annual Corn Festival & Craft Fair. This event will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2 (rain or shine), at the Warren L. & Charles C. Allen, Jr. CHEER Community Center on the corner of Route 9 and Sand Hill Road in Georgetown.
Hundreds of visitors are expected and the location of the event on Route 9 will attract those en route to the beach areas. Do not miss this excellent opportunity to sell your crafts and items. Legal Fund dinner
The Sussex County Sheriff’s Legal Fund, Inc., will hold a benefit dinner at the Georgia House Restaurant, located on 119 Main St., Millsboro, on Monday, July 21, from 5-7 p.m., in support of Sheriff Robert Reed’s efforts to preserve the historical and constitutional role of the office of County Sheriff and protect the civil liberties of the people of Sussex County.
The menu features a wide variety of renowned Georgia House favorites, including prime rib, chicken and pasta primavera.
Sheriff Reed will cordially welcome all guests and will be on hand to answer all questions pertaining to the Sussex County Sheriff’s office and related matters.
Tickets are $16.95 for adults and $8.95 for children 12 and under, and may be purchased by calling SCSLF president Brian Derby at 856-4138.
The 8th Annual Bluegrass Festival will be held on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Aug. 14, 15, and 16.
This year’s event will be held at the Marvel Carriage Museum located at 510 South Bedford St., Georgetown.
The weekend is sponsored by Peninsula Bluegrass, Inc., and will begin on Thursday evening at 6 p.m., with a Pick-In and Covered Dish Diner. The cost for Thursday night is $5.
The Festival Weekend starting with the show on Friday, Aug. 15, at 3 p.m. will feature: “Recent Addition” and “Jay Armsworthy & Eastern Tradition.”
Appearing both days are “Billy Lee Cox,” “Michele Nixon & Drive,” “Flexible Flyer,” and “Patent Pending.”
Saturday, Aug. 16, the show will begin at 10 a.m. Adding to the weekend highlights will be Dixie Dukes.

Delaware Professional Photographers, Inc. (an affiliate of Professional Photographers of America) will be having their second print competition for 2003, on Tuesday, July 15, at the Modern Maturity Center, Dover. Sussex County Volunteer Firemen’s Association Ladies Auxiliary meeting will be held on July 16, at Gumboro Volunteer Fire Department, Gumboro. Dinner will be at 7 p.m., followed by the meeting at 8 p.m.
