Bi-Staters’ Coffee Talk
Sharon Cordrey
We extend our deepest sympathies to husband, Alton Cordrey, family and friends of Lena Cordrey, who passed away Wednesday, July 3. She worked in the cafeteria of the old Delmar High School for 20 years, retiring in 1988.

Elaine Carr recently attended her high school reunion in Prince George’s Co, Md. After the brunch on Sunday, two classmates followed her home. Her houseguests were Joy Teetsel of Waynesville, N.C., and Jim Hamilton of Tavares, Fla. None of them had seen each other since their graduation, so there was a lot of catching up and reminiscing going on.

Reminder that Michael Richmond-Boudewyns, storyteller extraordinaire, will present a program “Once Upon A Time” at the Delmar Public Library Thursday, July 11. Call the library at 302-846-9894 for details. Children and public are invited.

Someone told me that to make roses bloom better, the gardener should bury banana peels around the bottom of the bush and stand back and watch. How true this is I don’t know, but it seems like a pretty reliable article they read. If anyone has tried this, let me know.
Another one — To grow great tomatoes or peppers add one level teaspoon of Epsom salts to the planting hole and mix in well. It’s worth a try.

Happy belated birthday wishes to George Campbell, who celebrated his birthday on July 6.

We wish the following people very happy birthdays: July 7 - Theodore Warren and John Lynch; July 8 - Oscar L. (Sonny) Porter; July 11 - Mary Mitchell and Shirley Cooper; July 12 - Brittany Carlisle; July 13 - Laura Hudson, William C. Calloway, Keith Baker and Cheryl Fisher; July 14 - Ethan Harris and Scott Morris
