Asbury hosts quartet
Asbury United Methodist Church, Rt. 9, near Hardscrabble, will welcome the Epworth Quartet and Cathy Gorman for a Hymn Sing, Sunday, Aug. 3, 2 p.m. All are welcome to come and enjoy the music and fellowship.
The Epworth Quartet recently celebrated their 40th anniversary. They started singing in 1962 for a revival in their home church. They have been singing for the Lord ever since. While the makeup of the group has changed over the years their reason for singing has remained the same. Dale Dukes, an original member, is joined by Anthony Lecates, Charles Haddock, Jordan Haddock, Charles Morris, Dr. John Warfel and Kevin Yoder. The group comes from four different denominations but they represent Jesus Christ.
Cathy Gorman has been singing all of her life in different venues. As a child she was a featured singer in church and school. Cathy continues to sing in church, CHEER Glen Club, and solos at numerous public events throughout Sussex County.
Asbury Church invites all to come and receive a blessing in song. All are welcome to share in the meal to follow in the community building.
Church of Nazarene
The Laurel Church of the Nazarene invites children to Dive into God’s love at SCUBA- a Super Cool Undersea Bible Adventure.
“This year our church is bubbling with excitement as we dive into a Super Cool Undersea Bible Adventure,” says Pastor Ralph. “On this adventure, kids won’t find any boring reminders of tedious schoolwork. Our SCUBA program will provide fun, memorable Bible-learning activities for kids of all ages. Each day kids will sing catchy sons, play teamwork-building games, nibble tasty treats from Dive-In Diner, experience electrifying Bible adventures, and create Bible Point Crafts.”
“SCUBA is an exciting way for kids to learn about Bible people who went deeper in their faith,” says Pastor Ralph. “We’ll be studying Elijah, Jonah, and stories about Jesus and his followers. Plus, kids will join nearly a million children in North America and take part in a hands-on mission project that will reach needy children around the world. We’ll conclude each day with a festive Sea Star Finale that gets everyone involved in celebrating what they’ve learned. Family members and friends are encouraged to join us daily for this special time at 8:10 p.m. We hope SCUBA will help our community dive deeper into God’s love.”
SCUBA begins on Aug. 4 and continues through Aug. 8. “Divers” will meet at the Laurel Church of the Nazarene each day from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For more information, call 875-7873.
On Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 7 p.m. the recovery program at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Seaford will begin a youth support program for hurting teenagers. “Life Hurts, God Heals” is an eight-step program that journeys through hurts, habits, and hang-ups to bring healing to life’s pain. The hour-long group will meet in Room 203. Call 629-9466 for more information.
