Bluegrass Festival
The 8th Annual Bluegrass Festival will be held on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Aug. 14, 15, and 16. This year’s event will be held at the Marvel Carriage Museum located at 510 South Bedford St., Georgetown. The weekend is sponsored by Peninsula Bluegrass, Inc., and will begin on Thursday evening at 6 p.m., with a Pick-In and Covered Dish DiNner. The cost for Thursday night is $5. The Festival Weekend starting with the show on Friday, Aug. 15, at 3 p.m. will feature: “Recent Addition” and “Jay Armsworthy & Eastern Tradition.” Appearing both days are “Billy Lee Cox,” “Michele Nixon & Drive,” “Flexible Flyer,” and “Patent Pending.” Saturday, Aug. 16, the show will begin at 10 a.m. Adding to the weekend highlights will be Dixie Dukes. Big Thursday Festival
The Greater Millsboro Chamber of Commerce has announced the opening of ticket sales for concerts associated with the Big Thursday Festival. The festival will be held in Downtown Millsboro, at the Little League complex on State Street on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 14-16. In addition to the Chamber and Little League, the event is co-sponsored by the Town of Millsboro. For all festival information call the Chamber at 934-6777, or e-mail Millsboro@intercom.net. Making a return appearance on Friday night is the regionally popular band, The Roadsters, whose performance of classic rock and roll favorites will accompany a preview cruise-in for Saturday’s antique and classic car show. Show time is 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $3; day of the show $5. Children under six enter free. On Saturday night, two favorites with Big Thursday audiences will return. Taking the stage at 5 and 7 p.m., will be The Funsters, At 6 and 8 p.m., Dakkota, from Boone, N.C., will share their rockin’ country music. Saturday evening’s tickets are $7 advance; and $9 day of show (under 6 are free). One ticket covers all four performances.

Grange Picnic
Delaware State Grange Picnic, Sunday, Aug. 10, from 1 till 4 p.m., at the home of Bill and Donna O’Day at Reliance. All grangers welcome! Bring a covered dish; main dish of fried chicken will be provided. Bring bathing suit also, if you would like to go for a swim in their pool.

First State Harmonettes
First State Harmonettes, a prospective chorus of the Sweet Adelines, meets every Tuesday, at 7 p.m., in the Avenue Methodist Church in Milford. We invite you to join us. If you like to sing this is for you. For more information call Dot at 422-7887.
Sussex Democrats
The annual Sussex County Democratic Party Jamboree will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23, at Cape Henlopen State Park from 4 p.m. till …? The cost for the event will be $10 per adult person, children under six $5. The event will feature elected officials, candidates, music by J.T. Cruise, food, fellowship and door prizes. Included in the price are hot dogs on the grill, watermelon, fried chicken, sausage with peppers, veggie wraps, homemade dessert, soft drinks, and water. Festival Hispano
Festival Hispano 2003 will be on Sunday, Aug. 24, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Millsboro Little League Complex on State Street. This will be the ninth year that Festival Hispano will be celebrated in Sussex County. Festival Hispano 2003 is free and open to anyone who wants to celebrate Latino cultural heritage. This day includes beautiful music, folkloric dances, plenty of delicious Mexican and Latin American food, and once again a special tent will be dedicated exclusively to children's entertainment. Festival Hispano is one of the many activities sponsored by the local arts organization known as El Centro Cultural. Formed in 1995 to provide more artistic, cultural and social programs, El Centro Cultural plays an important role in discovering and promoting local Hispanic artists, supporting local arts education, and coordinating local community events. Crab Feast and melon
Get ready to party! Friends of Vance Phillips Crab Fest and Watermelon Extravaganza is right around the corner. If you haven’t RSVP’ed, do so today! DelDOT planning meeting
In preparation of the Delaware Department of Transportation’s FY 2005-2010 Capital Transportation Program, the Department will be hosting a series of joint Council on Transportation and Metropolitan Planning Organizations public meetings. The Sussex County meeting will take place on Thursday, Sept. 11, in the Conference Room of the DelDOT Administration Building in Georgetown. A workshop will take place from 6 to 7 p.m., with public comments being taken at 7 p.m.

Buckmasters Banquet
The Eastern Shore Chapter of Buckmasters will be holding their 11th Annual Banquet on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Delmarva Convention center in Delmar. All money raised during the evening will benefit the Buckmasters American Deer Foundation. Much of the money raised is used here on the Shore. The evening will begin with cocktails at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Live auctions, raffles and door prizes. Nearly 20 guns will be given away during the evening. Tickets are $40 and include a one-year membership to Buckmasters. A spouse can attend for $25 and includes all of the festivities for the evening including dinner. A special sponsorship ticket is available again this year for $200 and includes membership, two dinners, a special sponsor package of gifts, a chance on a special sponsor only rifle and a raffle ticket package.
