Hit a home run for Jesus
Grace Baptist Church, located on Atlanta Road in Seaford, will have a family day camp, “Baseball at GBC Yards,” on Sunday, Aug. 11, at 2 p.m. The church will be transformed into a ballpark dedicated to hitting home runs for Jesus. During the day, families will move through a series of “training camps” as “coaches and trainers” from the church introduce them to several Bible stories and truths. The afternoon will end with an “all-star” baseball game and, of course, hot dogs and peanuts.

Portsville to host concert
There will be an outdoor gospel concert under the big top featuring Bruce Willey and the Band of Brothers on Sunday, Aug. 11, at 6:30 p.m. The concert will be held at the Portsville United Methodist Church, Dogwood Lane, just west of Bethel. Those attending should bring lawn chairs. Refreshments will be served after the service. For details, call (302) 875-4672 or 875-3628.

Workshop called successful
The pace of preparation for Delmarva Encounter 2002 increased as almost 200 volunteers attended the Encounter Workshop Thursday, July 25, at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Seaford. Representatives from the committees were on hand to acquaint people with their duties before, during and after the October evangelistic outreach. Among the represented committees were choir, prayer, children’s ministry, youth, facilities, publicity, ushers, and business and professional. Delmarva Encounter 2002 will be held nightly from Oct. 5-10 under the Wingfield Ministries tent in Williams Pond Park. Evangelist Steve Wingfield will be the featured speaker each night. Encounter will also feature a variety of musical artists, testimonies, speakers and a children’s program. Delmarva Encounter 2002 is a united effort of area churches, ministries and businesses in conjunction with Wingfield Ministries of Harrisonburg, Va. For more information, call 629-5542.

Reynolds to speak at church
The Rev. Dr. Brooks Reynolds will deliver the morning sermon, “Re-digging Old Wells,” at the 11 a.m. service at Christ United Methodist Church, Laurel, Sunday, Aug. 11. Reynolds is a former pastor of this church. Music will be provided by Greg Brittingham. The regular pastor, the Rev. Fred Duncan, will be on vacation.

Trinity plans Bible school
Trinity United Methodist Church, near Trap Pond on Phillips Hill Road, Laurel, will hold its annual vacation Bible school Aug. 12 through 16, from 6:30 to 8:45 each night. No pre-registration is required. The theme is “Faith Mountain.” For more information call 238-7139.

Tent services planned
The Family Enrichment and Deliverance Center, Laurel, will hold its fourth annual tent service Aug. 15 through 17, 7 p.m. nightly, at Laurel River Park, Laurel. ‘The Ark’ to hold Bug Safari
Seaford Wesleyan Church, “The Ark,” will hold its vacation Bible school Aug. 13 through 18. The theme is “Bug Safari.” Classes will meet Tuesday through Friday, 6:30 to 9 p.m. On Saturday, they will meet 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. A closing program will be held Sunday, 10:30 a.m. The church is located on US 13, south of Seaford.

Methodist Men plan festival
The United Methodist Men of the Bridgeville Charge will hold their first Summer Fest Saturday, Aug. 17, starting at noon at Bethel United Methodist Church Camp Ground on Harper Road, Federalsburg, Md. (Harper Road is the first left-hand turn off Delaware 18, after you cross the Maryland state line.) The Bridgeville Charge is comprised of three churches: Bethel, Mt. Calvary in Bridgeville and Trinity, located at Dublin Hill. Activities will include horseshoe pitch, volleyball and table games such as chess and checkers. A softball game will begin at 4 p.m. Ministers from the surrounding community will attend, as well as members from the Buffalo Soldiers M/C Club. Hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecued chicken, fish sandwiches, hot sausages and sodas will be on sale to benefit programs supported by the Untied Methodist Men of the Bridgeville Charge.

Traditional mass planned
A Latin mass according to the Missal of 1962 is celebrated on the third Sunday of every month at 3 p.m. at Holy Cross Church in Dover. This month’s mass will be celebrated on Aug. 18. VBS for special people set
VBS for Special People Aug. 21-25
The Bible School for Special People (BSSP) program at Christ Lutheran Church will host vacation Bible school Aug. 21-25. This program is designed for people with mental retardation and other mental and physical challenges. The program will begin at 6:30 and will conclude at 8:30 each night. This year’s theme is “Who is Jesus?” There will be a closing program at 8 p.m. on Friday. For more information call 629-2770.

Nazarene elder to speak
A fellowship service featuring Elder Ryan Brown of Chestertown, Md., will be held on Sunday, Aug. 25, during the 11 a.m. service, at United Church of the Nazarene in Seaford.

Trinity to host hymn sing
Trinity United Methodist Church, Dublin Hill Road, Bridgeville, will host a hymn sing Sunday, Aug. 25, at 2:30 p.m., in the church grove. Everett Warrington and the Gentle Guys, Bob Littleton and the Rev. Dan Walker will perform.
