Sweaters display in Laurel
The Laurel Public Library now has on display two beautifully hand-knit sweaters.One is a cream colored cardigan and the other is based on a pattern called "Delaware Delight" and features various aspects of Delaware. Both hand-knit sweaters were donated to the Friends of the Library by Rachel Waller and will be raffled off on Sept. 18. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $1 each or 6 for $5 at the library. The Laurel Library bags are also on display. The bags are on a special August sale for $12.50 at the library. The library display boards are still featuring the Waller photographs. Please stop in to see the new photographs.

Trap Pond Festival Sept. 7
The annual Trap Pond Fall Festival, sponsored by Sussex County Senior Services, Inc./Cheer, will have a new feature this year with the "Shining Star Center" contest. The Trap Pond Fall Festival is held each year in September to give Sussex County seniors a chance to enjoy a picnic atmosphere at Delaware's first state park. Located east of Laurel, Trap Pond offers a relaxing day amidst its tall pine trees and a scenic view of the cypress trees in the pond. There will be assorted entertainment going on throughout the day and a delicious fried chicken lunch. There will also be several door prizes and gifts. This year's event will be held on Friday, Sept. 7. The Shining Star Center contest will raise funds will win the honor of being the 2001 Shining Star Center, along with a cash award for the winning center. All senior citizens are welcome to attend the Trap Pond Fall Festival. Tickets are $3. For more information call 856-5187.

Joe Biden to speak to 40th District Democrats Sept. 29
U.S. Sen. Joseph R. Biden, Delaware's Senior Senator, will be the principal speaker at the Fall Dinner sponsored by the 40th District Democrat Executive Committee. The dinner will be held at the Laurel American Legion Home, Saturday, Sept. 29, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and may be obtained from any 40th District Democrat Committee person, or by mailing your money to Frank B. Calio, 104 Lansing Ave., Laurel, DE 19956. Biden, former chairman of the Judiciary Committee, before Republicans took control of the Senate, recently became chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee after Democrats regained the majority in the Senate.
