A really super three-week vacation has been reported to me by my neighbors, Charlotte and Jerry Todd. They have recently returned from a tour of the mid-West.
Their traveling companions were Newman and Shirley Sonnier of Salisbury. They visited the Arch in St. Louis, Badlands in the Dakotas, Yellowstone National Park, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Pike's Peak, Royal Gorge, Bryce Canyon and Arches National Park.
While at Royal Gorge they were lured into the sport of white-water rafting and discovered this to be the highlight of their vacation.
While in Wyoming the Todds visited their grandson, Derek Pusey of Laurel, who is attending Wyoming Technical College. He is a 2001 graduate of Laurel High School.
Happy birthday wishes to a big 7-year-old in Florida, Lorenzo Whaley IV, on Aug. 22. These wishes come from family and friends in our town.
Donna Ward hosted a farewell party last week for Vivian Lee.
Forty-five young people attended to say good-bye to Vivian, who has been a student at Laurel School, has made many close friends and will move with her family to Newark.
She will be greatly missed by her Laurel peers.
Friends and past patients of Dr. Joseph Elliott may be interested to learn that "Dr. Joe" is currently a patient, following a recent illness, at LifeCare at Lofland Park in Seaford. We all are wishing him a speedy recovery and return home.
Meantime, well wishes and cheery messages may be sent to him at that facility. The address is LifeCare at Lofland Park, 715 E. King St., Seaford, DE 19973, Room 205A.
Apologies to Colby Buchert, for announcing in last week's column that he was a girl. Not so - he's a wonderful big boy and ask Gran-ma Doris Riggin - she can prove it!
Mrs. Ethel Littleton was guest of honor, in celebration of her 90th birthday, on Sunday, Aug. 19, at RJ Riverside restaurant.
Her party was hosted by her son and daughter-in-law, Walter and Arlene Littleton, and daughter and son-in-law, Ron and Janice Whaley.
She was joined by grandson and friend, Walter Littleton III and Kelley of Philadelphia; grandson and family, Russell, Bonnie, Lindsay and Chase Whaley of Smyrna; granddaughter and family, Cynthia, Kyle, Jacob and Andrew Mitchell of Laurel; and several family and friends to make her day a very special and memorable one.
A name omitted, by mistake, in last week's paper as one of the winners in the Laurel Library Teen Reading Program was James Nelson. He is among the eight to reap rewards from the program.
Thoughts and well wishes go to Catherine Henry who recently took a tumble, and I understand is pretty well "banged up." I'm sure she would appreciate some sympathetic words of encouragement at this time.
We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of: Earl Ernest Brannock Jr. and William H. Garner.
Our thoughts and prayers to those who are ill: Eleanor Stacey, Nellie O'Neal, Dr. Joe Elliott, David West, Ellie Wilson, Catherine Henry and Sherry Scanlon.
Happy "August" birthdays are wished to: Dennis Wilson, Aug. 24; Pierce Ellis, Dolores Hyland and Paul Pusey, Aug. 25; Beatrice Joseph, Aug. 26; Joyce Macek, Aug. 27; Herman Cubbage and Kathryn Hoffman, Aug. 28; Karldon VanTine, Aug. 29; and Linwood Horseman, Aug. 30.
Our bit of philosophy for the week - "We live very close together. So, our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them at least don't hurt them."
See you in the Stars.
