A surprise 25th anniversary party was given for Jim and Ellen Dunn by their daughter Jessica, Ellen’s mother Lois Evans and her sisters Susan and Lynn Evans at Kings Church Sunday, Aug. 25. During the celebration, slides of their wedding were shown. Ellen’s wedding gown and the bridesmaid dresses were on display, along with the wedding album. Jim and Ellen would like to thank their family and friends for making their 25th anniversary celebration so special.

Ted and Carol Mulder and their son Shawn from Stoney Creek, Ontario, visited with Flaudine Otwell during August. While they were here, they visited Assateague Island, Rehoboth Beach, Sharptown Carnival, and numerous other places. In Carol’s spare time, when she’s not working as a nurse, she’s a part-time artist. She painted a picture of Cape Hatteras Light House for Flaudine’s birthday. Flaudine and Carol met 18 years ago at the Outer Banks. They were walking their Yorkie Terriers on the beach and struck up a conversation. They have continued their friendship over the years.
Flaudine’s children Cathy and Ken Elder, Debbie and Bill Wilson, Ricky and Susan Otwell and Billie and Jan Otwell surprised her with a birthday dinner at Fratelli’s Restaurant to help celebrate her 75th birthday, Monday, Aug. 26. We wish Flaudine a very special birthday.

Happy anniversary to Evelyn and Russell Mumford. They celebrated their anniversary on Sept. 3 which was also Russell’s 67th birthday. Happy anniversary to both of you and a happy birthday to Russell.

We like to send happy birthday wishes to Mabel O’Neal, who celebrated her birthday Monday, Sept. 1.

Delmar Library is handing out red stars to commemorate Sept. 11. Employees at the library want town residents to hang the stars in their front window or on their doors to quietly honor the memory of the lives that were lost that day. They suggest that residents keep the stars on display through Nov. 11, to remember Veterans Day and the lives that have been lost defending our country.

The library is also compiling a booklet of thoughts and feelings of Delmar people on that day. Pick up your form from the library to submit your thoughts. For details, please contact the library at 846-9894.

Thought for the week: “Why is our memory good enough to recall to the last detail things that have happened to us, yet not good enough to recall how often we have told them to the same person?” — La Rouchefoucauld.
