Parenting classes planned
Parenting classes, “1-2-3 Training your Preschoolers and Preteens To Do What You Want,” will be held at Gethsemane United Methodist Church. The five-week series of one-hour classes will be held on Thursday evenings, Sept. 12, 19, 26 and Oct. 3, 10 starting at 7 p.m. Constance Hastings, counseling and support group facilitator at St. John’s U.M.C. and counselor for Daybreak Counseling, will lead the classes. Child care will be available. To register contact the church office at 629-2862. Cost is $5 per family.

Social to benefit missions
St. John’s United Methodist Church, Seaford, will hold an ice cream social Saturday, Sept. 14, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit local missions including the Seaford Mission, the Way Home Program, One Church-One Family, St. John’s Thrift Shop. The social will be held in the church’s fellowship hall, Pine and Poplar streets.

Yoga classes at church
Yoga classes have started at Christ Untied Methodist Church at 510 South Central Ave., Laurel, conducted by Amy Ash. Pre-registration is not required. Classes are on Tuesday and Thursday from 7 till 8 p.m.

Traditional mass planned
A Latin mass according to the Missal of 1962 is celebrated on the third Sunday of every month at 3 p.m. at Holy Cross Church in Dover. This month, the mass will be celebrated on Sept. 15. The mass is always a Missa Cantata using traditional Gregorian chant. For further information, call 674-5905 or 629-8863.

Mt. Calvary to honor women
Mt. Calvary AME Church, Concord, will hold its annual Women’s Day Sunday, Sept. 15, with services at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The morning messenger will be evangelist Vera Worthy of Dickerson Chapel AME Church, Millsboro. Music will be provided by the Mt. Calvary Women’s Day Choir. The afternoon messenger will be the Rev. Deborah Tull-Speaks of Bethel AME Church, Moorestown, N.J. The theme of the day will be “Women of Calvary Committed to Praising God.” The event is sponsored by the women of Mt. Calvary AME Church. Chairwomen are Otelia Oliver, Gladys Briggs and Deborah Davis. Pastor is the Rev. G. Dianne Burns.

Shiloh to hold hymn sing
A hymn sing will be held at Shiloh Community Church Sunday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. The church is located on Shiloh Road, Laurel. Singers will be Peggy Knotts, Easter Foskey and Sounds of Joy Trio. Refreshments will be served afterward.

Pastor to be honored
An appreciation service for pastor Ebenezer Williamson of the United Church of the Nazarene, Seaford, will be Sunday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, Federalsburg, Md. Course teaches about violence
“Let Me Grow Up In Peace,” a course put together by the Erikson Institute of Chicago, Ill., so elementary and middle school students can talk about living in a world with violence, will be taught at Christ Lutheran Church, Shipley and Spruce streets, Seaford, on Wednesday nights from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. The class will be held on Sept. 18 and 25 and Oct. 2. The material, published by Aid Association for Lutherans, explores what violence is, how violence feels, where it can happen, how to deal with it and keeping safe. The classes are free of charge. Church selling candles
Christ the Cornerstone Community Church is selling Yankee candles through Sept. 29, to benefit its building projects. Candles can be purchased from any church member or at the church office. Office hours are noon to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The church is located at 28714 Seaford Road (the corner of 13A and Bethel roads), Laurel. For details, call 875-8150.

Rock Church holds fund-raiser
The Rock Church Fellowship is selling the 2003 Entertainment Book, with discount coupons for dining, movies, sports activities, attractions, travel and hotels. The book costs $25. Park to host gospel sing
The 13th annual Old-Fashioned Gospel Sing will be held at the Delmar Park Saturday, Sept. 21, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Performers will include Jim and Patty Jeannette, the Smith Family Singers and the Brewer and Sherrill Families. This year there will be children’s activities including Tim and Connies’ Wagon Train and Sister Jennette’s Puppet Show. Refreshments will include Mrs. Eleanor’s Famous Oyster Sandwiches. Hymn sing planned at Bethel
Bethel Methodist Church, Bethel, will hold a hymn sing Sunday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m. The Sounds of Joy trio and 10-year-old Daisey Wharton will perform.

St. Stephens plans festival
St. Stephens United Methodist Church, East State Street, Delmar, will hold a fall festival Saturday, Sept. 28, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Camelot Hall, East State Street, two blocks west of the Bi-State Boulevard stop light. The event will feature a yard sale, bake sale, country store and oyster fritters crab cakes and homemade ice cream for sale.

Gospel group to perform
St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Laurel will hold an evening of gospel music with special guest, “Cokesbury Lighthouse,” Sunday, Sept. 29. The program begins at 7 p.m. and refreshments will be served. St. Paul’s is near Hearns Crossroads in Laurel. For more information see the web page
