‘Star Search’ Contest
“Star Search” Talent Contest, sponsored by Laurel New Century Club, will be Nov. 8, at Centenary Methodist Church, Market Street, Laurel, at 7 p.m. Cost: $10 for show and dessert.
Prizes for first place, $300; second place, $200. Entrance forms are available from Suzanne Layton, 203 W. 6th St., Laurel, DE 19956, 875-7809. Entrance fee for contest is $10. A rehearsal date is set for Friday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. Centenary Church downstairs.
Accompaniment music will be available if needed. Singers, dancers, comedians, magicians and others are welcome to compete. The benefit is for the Laurel Library Building Fund.
Laurel Alumni trip
The Laurel Alumni Association is sponsoring a bus trip to the Three Little Bakers Theater to see the show, “Home For the Holidays.” The bus will leave Discount Land parking lot at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8. Tickets are $55 per person and include the show, dinner, and the bus. Please contact Janet Morgan at 875-5330 (home), or 875-7591 (Insurance Market), by Oct. 15.
The Laurel Homecoming Parade will be held on Oct. 17. All Laurel youth groups, non-profit organizations, car clubs, etc., interested in participating in this year’s parade must pick up a registration form from Laurel High School and return it no later than Oct. 6. All participants will be responsible for making their own arrangements for transportation through the parade. To avoid confusion during line-up, late entries will not be allowed to participate.
A workshop will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 5-8 p.m., presented by the Parent Information Center of Delaware, “The SMART Individualized Education Program (IEP).” Learn how to develop an effective IEP for children who receive special education services.Location at Laurel Public Library, 101 East 4th St., Laurel.
