Congratulations to the Mid-Shore Express Girls, 18 and under traveling softball team for placing third in the NSA FAST World Series Softball Tournament in Jupiter, Fla. The girls also placed second in the East vs. West World Series in Kansas City, Kansas. Two local young ladies from Delmar High School participated in both series, Ashley Fishcher, a senior, and Jennifer Hastings, a junior. Great job, girls!

Jeff Hughes and Shelley Johnson of Delmar are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Brendan Michael on Aug. 28. He was welcomed home by his 5-year-old brother, Bruce. Paternal grandparents are Bill and Janice Hughes of Delmar and paternal great-grandparents are Pete and Grace LeCates, also of Delmar.

Bill and Janice Hughes were recently honored guests at a surprise party celebrating their retirements after 36 and 35 years of service with the E. I. DuPont Co., Seaford. The celebration was hosted by and held at the home of their eldest son, B.J., his wife, Crista, and daughters, Kara and Kelsie. Also attending were several friends, family and their son Jeff and grandson, Bruce. Bill and Janice — congratulations on your retirement and good luck in your future endeavors.

Get well wishes go to Mary Windsor while she’s having tests done at the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital.

Annabel Cordrey celebrated her 75th birthday with her family at the Cactus Taverna. For a special surprise, her great-grandsons (ages 3 and 4) sang “Happy Birthday” with lots of love behind the song for their Granny, accompanied by the restaurant guitarist. Your family and friends wish you many more “happy birthdays.”

Happy seventh anniversary to Ted and Denice Cordrey on Oct. 1. Also a happy birthday goes to their horse, Charlie Brown, who was born the day of their wedding and named after the priest who married them. Wasn’t that a unique wedding gift from Denise’s mare?

Welcome home Jim and Janice Jestice from your vacation in Florida. They enjoyed spending time just relaxing and going out to dinner with friends at their winter home in Sebring.

Allen and Kitty Larason visited their son, David, and his family of Elkton, Md., over the weekend. They enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren.

Peggy and Donald Morris have just returned from a wonderful vacation in England and France. They saw many beautiful sights in London and Paris. Peggy says they traveled on trains, buses, subways and planes and it was the trip of a lifetime for them, but she said, it’s also nice to be home safe and sound.
