Laurel flushing hydrants
The Town of Laurel will be flushing fire hydrants on Wednesday, Oct. 24, beginning at 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. It is recommended automatic washers not be used during the flushing. Some residents may experience short periods of discoloration in their water and in the event this should occur, let your tap run until the water clears. The town appreciates the cooperation and understanding of the residents as the flushing will be beneficial to the town.

Family Story Hour
Laurel Library is hosting a Family Story Hour, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. This is for families with children of all ages. Children who wish to read aloud are invited to select a short book or poem to share.

Car Show October 20
A Car show will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Laurel High School’s student parking lot, off of Alternate Rt. 13 in Laurel. Cost is $10 per car, $2 per adult, $1 per student. Dance at the Legion Home
The Laurel Legion Home will be the location for a dance on Oct. 20, from 9 p.m.-1 a.m., sponsored by “Laurel Saddle Friends.” Music will be provided by “L.J. the D.J.” Tickets are $7 per person, $12 per couple.

Laurel Lioness chances
The Laurel Lioness are off to a great start this year with the following projects. Chances for the Longaberger “Pumpkin Patch” Basket can be purchased for $1 to be given away in December. The Lioness are also selling Home Interior Candles with your choice of many scents for $6. Please contact Bea Wright at 875-2674 or any Lioness member for a chance on the basket or with your order for candles. Show involves area quilters.

Saturday, Oct. 20, and Sunday, Oct. 21, are two very special days for area quilters. Members of Delmarvalous Quilters, Helping Hands Quilt Guild, Piecemaker’s, and Ocean Waves will join forces to present a quilt show at the Milford Senior Center, located at 111 Park Ave., Milford. Show hours are Oct. 20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Oct. 21, noon to 5 p.m. “Friends ‘n’ Quilting” involves quilters from Sussex County and Maryland, but, in particular will involve area quilters from Seaford and Laurel. Also participating will be the Broad Creek Broads Bee group. The quilt show will have 100 bed quilts on display, door prizes, demonstrations on quilting techniques, a country store filled with speciality items for sale, silent auction of wall-hangings, quilt “Challenge” display, vendors, and sale of tickets for several raffle quilts. LeCates Family Reunion
Decedents of Daniel B. LeCates will be holding the 29th year family reunion on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. at the Grange Hall located on Route 9, Laurel.

Bulldogs March for Freedom
This year’s Laurel High School Homecoming Parade will take place on Friday, Oct. 26, at 6 p.m. LHS welcomes groups that wish to “Join the March” in this celebration of community and in support of the victims, due to the Sept. 11 tragedy.
