Woodbridge looks for construction of vo-tech building

By Mike McClure

The Woodbridge School Board reviewed construction documents for the district’s new vo-tech building and discussed a waiver request to a state law during its meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 20. The board also received information about past and future events in the district. The new vo-tech building, which will be located at the site of the tennis courts at the high school, will be a pre-engineered building with masonry added. The district will start taking bids for the project at the end of the month and will receive final bids on Dec. 19. “We are hoping it will be happy times (on Dec. 19),” said board president Paul Breeding. The board also discussed a waiver request to a state law. According to Barry Cooper, supervisor of administrative services, the law requires public school buildings to have allocated to them 98 percent of the Division I units generated by the actual unit count in that building. The waiver request is usually made because of funding and staffing issues. The district needs to produce a survey and send it to the department of education for approval. The board voted on the construction documents and waiver request following an executive session. Superintendent Kevin Carson recognized the Woodbridge Elementary during the meeting for its “hug around the school.” Teachers, students, and community members circled the school and held moments of silence in celebration of Veteran’s Day. The district will discuss the possibility of holding a referendum during its meeting on Dec. 4. The referendum would address employees pay. Parent-teacher conferences will be held throughout the district on Thursday, Nov. 29, and Friday, Nov. 30.
