Seaford Fire Department searching for lost chiefs
AS part of its centennial celebration, the Seaford Volunteer Fire Depart. is researching its own history but it has found a problem. It has no pictures in its archives of four early chiefs.
Wayne Rigby, who is editing the department history, reports that 23 men have served as chief of the department in its 100 years. Pictures of these officers are proudly displayed in the department’s meeting room but four frames are blank. “No Picture Available” is written in those frames. There have also been 24 department presidents and photos are on display of all of those men.
Any help would be greatly appreciated in locating photos of the following: J.H. Twiford, chief from 1906 to 1908; Ernest Fields, chief from 1908 to 1910; Charles E. Marvel, chief from 1910 to 1914; J. Woody Marvel, chief from 1920 to 1922 and 1924 to 1927.
Anyone with information or pictures should contact Wayne Rigby at 629-4658. Photos will be copied and returned. It is expected that the entire history will be ready in early 2002 and copies available through the fire department. Anyone interested in reserving a copy should call 629-2113.

Babies and Toddlers ‘Stay & Play’
The “Parents As Teachers” program (PAT) invites parents and their children from birth to age three to a FREE “Stay and Play Center” at Seaford Dept. of Parks & Recreation (SDPR) on Virginia Avenue. Sessions will be on Mondays from 10:30 a.m. to noon. (Closed on school holidays.)
The center provides an opportunity for parents and caretakers with young children to play together and discuss any parenting questions with a parent educator. Other services include a lending library of children’s and parenting books and evening group meetings on a variety of topics. For more information, call Cris Henderson at 875-2781 or Seaford Dept. of Parks & Recreation at 629-6809.
