Special Advent Services
Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Reliance, has Advent Services planned for Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. This will include both contemporary and traditional elements including praise music and traditional hymns. This will be a wonderful opportunity to worship Jesus Christ and prepare for the time of His birth.

Youth Revival
Family Enrichment & Deliverance Center Inc., located at 534 East 4th St., Laurel, will hold a Youth Revival on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13 and 14, at 7 p.m. and Saturday morning workshops on Dec. 14, beginning at 9 a.m. Call 875-0113.

Latin Mass
A Latin Mass according to the Missal of 1962 is celebrated on the third Sunday of every month at 3 p.m. at Holy Cross Church in Dover. The next Mass will be celebrated on Dec. 15. The Mass is a Missal Cantata using traditional Gregorian chant. Call 629-8863.

Presbyterian thrift shop
Cleaning out your garage or attic? Want to get rid of old furniture or appliances? Moving and throwing away incidental items? Consider contributing such items to the Seaford Presbyterian Church. These items will be recycled, with proceeds going to help people in need. Free pick up and delivery. Call 629-9077.

Thrift Shop extends hours
St. John’s Community Thrift Shop, 259 Conwell St., Seaford, will extend its store hours for Christmas shoppers. Hour will be Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with specials on Thursday. The Thrift Shop is in need of volunteers. Call 629-9466 for details.

Trinity Hymn Sing
Trinity Church at Dublin Hill will host a Hymn Sing with Everett Warrington and the Gospel Gents, on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Children’s Musical
Laurel Wesleyan Church is holding a Children’s Christmas Musical on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 6 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 15, at 10:30 a.m. The church is located on the Laurel-Seaford Highway just north of Laurel. Call 875-5380.

Christmas Cantatas
Centenary United Methodist Church, Market and Poplar streets, Laurel, is holding a Christmas Cantata, “A Song was Born,” on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m. A Children’s Christmas Cantata will be held on Sunday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m.

‘Majesty of Christmas’
The choir of the Atlanta Road Alliance Church, under the direction of Richard Trice, will present the stirring cantata, “Majesty of Christmas,” on Friday, Dec. 13, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. The church is located on Atlanta Road, 1-1/2 miles north of the Nylon Capital Shopping Plaza. Line U.M.C. sale
On Saturday, Dec. 14, Line United Methodist Church, Whitesville, will hold a breakfast, lunch and bake sale from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. Some features will be: oyster fritters, homemade ice cream, peas and dumplings, beef soup, and much more.
Christmas Cantata
First Baptist of Seaford to perform annual Christmas Cantata. The public is cordially invited to attend as the First Baptist of Seaford choir and its drama players will be presenting the Christmas cantata “He Gave Everything,” by Ron and Shelly Hamilton. The cantata will be held on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. in the church auditorium. The cantata features a heart warming Christmas story as well as beautiful choral arrangements that are interwoven throughout. Admission is free. First Baptist of Seaford is located at 543 N. The Cornerstone Notes

Rev. Cedric E. Cuthbert
Mount Calvary A.M.E. Church in Concord is proud to announce the appointment of the Reverend Cedric Eugene Cuthbert as pastor by Bishop Zedikiah L. Grady of the First Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Rev. Cuthbert is a graduate of Turner Interdenominational Theological Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Ga. Rev. Cuthbert was ordained an itinerant elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church at the historic 130th Session of the New Jersey Annual Conference in April 2002. As an assistant minister, he previously served as assistant coordinator of Christian Education Ministries, at Flat Rock A.M.E. Church in Riverdale, Ga. Oct. 4, he was assigned to his first pastorship at Mt. Calvary A.M.E. Church in Concord. It has been said that the Rev. Cedric E. Cuthbert truly represents the embodiment of a public theologian who is convinced that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is a liberating force of power in the lives of all people.

Volunteers needed
The holidays are approaching quickly and Sussex County Senior Services, Inc./CHEER is busy preparing for “Operation Christmas CHEER 2002.” Volunteers are needed to help deliver a hot Christmas meal to homebound senior citizens in Sussex County. Many seniors will be alone on Christmas day. These personal visits from the delivery volunteers will warm their hearts and the hot meals will warm their bellies. Meals are ready for pick-up at 11 a.m. on Christmas morning at the Sussex County Senior Services, Inc./CHEER office located in the Georgetown State Service Center building on South Bedford Street across from the Department of Motor Vehicles. To volunteer on Christmas day or for more information on volunteering throughout the year, call Elizabeth Walls at 302-856-5187. If you know of a person in need of the Christmas meal or are over age 60 and need the Christmas meal, call April Willey at 856-5187.
