Art Exhibit at Library
The Seaford District Library will be hosting an Art Exhibit and Reception for Delmar artist Ben Reed on Thursday, Dec. 12, from 5-7 p.m. Mr. Reed was reared on a farm near Bridgeville and graduated from Bridgeville High School in 1953. He then graduated from the University of Delaware with a BA in French and continued on to receive an MA in French Literature from Appalachian University in North Carolina. He began his teaching career in 1957 after spending a summer at the Sorbonne. He taught all levels of French to the students in the Wicomico County School System for 27 years and retired in 1984. Since his retirement, he has been working in the buying and selling of antiques and is associated with McNiel and Reed in Delmar. About three years ago, he resumed his interest in oil painting which had first been inspired by his mother, the late Catherine Davis Reed, who studied under Schroder. After his mother’s death, Reed was inspired by Martha Seamans of Ocean View who had studied in New York. He creates primarily landscapes and still lifes in oil. He is a member of the Art Institute and Gallery in Salisbury, Md. Join us for light refreshments and meet the artist and view some lovely paintings.
