Advocate of VFW is honored on his 80th birthday

Earlier this month, approximately 100 friends and relatives gathered
at the Delmar VFW to surprise George Davis on his 80th birthday.
His wife, Joan, really did a good job keeping it a secret because
when he came through the door, the look on his face told it all.
Davis had a stroke eight years ago and cannot walk or speak, but seems
to understand everything you say, and it showed as he buzzed around
the room in his wheelchair laughing and shaking hands with everyone.
There was food and music, but I am sure that the thing that meant
the most to him was seeing everyone at the affair.
After returning to Delmar following his discharge from the Marines
in 1946, he was instrumental in seeing that the original VFW home
Since that time, the VFW has been a big part of his life as he has
served this organization both on the local and state level in many
capacities right up to the time of his stroke.
Davis helped the VFW take a larger part in Delmar's community activities,
especially with the town's young people as they sponsored teen dances
and Little League activities.
He was a good athlete himself, so it was easy for him to work with
Davis is a charter member of the VFW, one of the organizers of Delmar
Little league, and former "Delmar Railroader."
And he's Delmar's Number One "Dodger" fan, but townspeople won't hold
that against him.

Delmar Little Miss crowned
Lauren Danielle Massey was crowned Little Miss Delmarva 2000 at the
7th Annual Miss Delmarva Pageant on Oct. 24, at the Delmarva Convention
Lauren is the daughter of Wayne and Melissa Massey and the granddaughter
of Pete and Carolyn Massey, Sr. and Charles and Mary Ann Wheatley,
all of Delmar.
Lauren is six-years old and is a first grader at Delmar Elementary
School. She is also involved in many other activities such as Brownie
Girl Scouts, Wicomico County Youth Soccer and Delmar Little League
as a coach pitch player.
Laurel presently is also holding two other Queen titles, Little Miss
East Coast 1999 and Little Miss Brilliance 1999. She was in attendance
at the Miss America Pageant in September and will be volunteering
as a Bell Ringer for the Salvation Army's Kettle Campaign as well
as making several appearances and participating in many parades this
