Ferry out of service
The Tina Fallon, which has been in successful operation for nearly nine months of service, was pulled from duty by DelDOT on Saturday, May 5.ᅠ During a week-long inspection, it was determined that a rope wrapped itself around a drive shaft on the upstream thruster causing significant damage to the unit. This occurrence is a result of nearly continuous daytime operation in a waterway that carries various forms of debris; some of which has the potential to damage the vessel.ᅠ During the inspection of the shaft, other wear and maintenance issues were found on the vessel. The re-fabrication of the drive shaft and its re-installation, as well as other maintenance issues, will require a four to six week interruption in service.ᅠ The total cost of all the service to be performed is approximately $50,000. ᅠ
