BLADES FIRE COMPANY CELEBRATES - Seventy-five years ago a group of visionaries started the Blades Volunteer Fire Company. Today, the fire company continues to serve the community thanks to like-minded individuals who give countless hours of their time training and responding to the calls for help. On Saturday, the public helped the fire company celebrate. See page 16 for story and additional photos. Above, Darrin West, 2, proudly wears his fire hat and firefighter's badge. He is the nephew of William Batson, a 15-year member of the Blades Volunteer Fire Company. At right, Riley Craig, Little Miss Fire Prevention from the Citizens Hose Company in Smyrna, tests the limits of a pink balloon during the Blades Volunteer Fire Company's birthday celebration. Riley, 5, rode in the parade that marched through Blades on Saturday.
