Leanne Phillips-Lowe wins new council term

Leanne Phillips-Lowe on Saturday was relected to a three-year term on the Seaford City Council. Phillips-Lowe beat challenger Doug Lambert by a vote of 131 to 53. Just under 1,000 people are registered to vote in the city elections, meaning turnout was under 20 percent of those who have taken time to register. However, many other residents have never signed up to vote in city elections. Phillips-Lowe was appointed to the council in 2006 and won re-election in 2007.

Lambert, who has lived in Seaford for seven years, has competed for a council seat three times. Phillips-Lowe said that her time on the city council is an asset. "I feel that after several years of service, I'm better able to understand the issues the city faces and the challenges it must meet," she said. Phillips-Lowe is public relations manager for Delaware Technical and Community College in Georgetown.
