New Beginnings Social Luncheons Delaware Hospice offers New Beginnings Social Luncheons at various restaurant locations in Sussex County every Thursday (except holidays) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is an informal socialization lunch group that's open to adults who have suffered a loss. Lofland Park Center receives award Lofland Park Center, a 110-bed Genesis HealthCare skilled nursing center, has been recognized as a 2016 recipient of the Bronze - Commitment to Quality Award for its dedication to improving the lives of patients and residents through quality care. The award is the first of three distinctions possible through the National Quality Award Program, presented by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL), the leading association for long term and post-acute care. The program honors providers across the nation that have demonstrated their commitment to improving quality of care for seniors and persons with disabilities. As a recipient of the Bronze Award, Lofland Park may now move forward in developing approaches and achieving performance levels that meet the criteria required for the Silver - Achievement in Quality Award. The awards will be presented during AHCA/NCAL's 67th Annual Convention and Exposition in Nashville, Tenn., Oct. 16-19.

Stroke Support Group Nanticoke Memorial Hospital will host a stroke support group on Tuesday, June 21 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Seaford Library & Cultural Center. Meetings consists of guest speakers and breakaway sessions in which caregivers and stroke survivors meet in groups to discuss concerns, providing support and networking. Refreshments will be provided. This support group is designed for individuals who have survived a stroke as well as their families, friends, and caregivers. Dr. Merritt joins Nanticoke The Nanticoke Physician Network welcomes Neasha Merritt, MD, to its active medical staff. Dr. Merritt has joined Bridgeville Medical Center located at 9111 Antique Alley, Unit 1 in Bridgeville. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is accepting new patients ages newborn and up. Dr. Merritt graduated from the Universidad Central del Este in San Pedro de Macors, Dominican Republic. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at St. Francis Family Practice in Wilmington. Her professional memberships include the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Delaware Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Medical Association. Dr. Merritt is fluent in both English and Spanish.

Nanticoke welcomes Dr. Langroudi The Nanticoke Physician Network welcomes Mehran Langroudi, MD, FACOG to its active medical staff. Dr. Langroudi has joined Nanticoke Women's Health Center located within the Nanticoke Health Pavilion Seaford at 100 Rawlins Drive, Seaford. Board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Langroudi is accepting new patients. Dr. Langroudi graduated from Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran.

He trained as an OB/GYN and physician and completed his fellowship in pelvic floor reconstruction surgery at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa. His professional memberships include the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists as well as the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists.

Alzheimer's education programs Cadia Rehabilitation Renaissance, 26002 John J. Williams Hwy., near Millsboro, is partnering with the Alzheimer's Association Delaware Valley Chapter to offer education programs to the community. The following programs will be offered at 2 p.m. on the dates below: Wednesday, June 22 - Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer's; The Basics Wednesday, June 29 - Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behaviors Wednesday, July 6 - Effective Communication Strategies Programs are free and open to the public. New breast cancer support group The Cancer Support Community in Sussex County will be introducing a Metastatic Breast Cancer Support Group to begin on June 16 and meet monthly on the third Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Sussex facility, 18947 John J. Williams Hwy., Ste. 312, Rehoboth. This group will be facilitated by Clare Wilson, RN, MS and Cancer Care coordinator at Tunnell Cancer Center. Diabetes Self Management Program The Greenwood CHEER Activity Center will host a free Diabetes Self Management Program on six Thursdays, beginning June 16. Experienced educators will present a training program which will provide coping and problem solving mechanisms that you can use to make living with diabetes, or helping loved ones with diabetes, more manageable. Classes will meet from 9-11:30 a.m. on Thursdays, June 16-July 21. Topics will include how to help prevent and/or delay health complications, improve your A1C (quarterly blood sugar reading), help people with the disease understand the importance of an action plan for diabetes control, improve diabetes self-management and help understand the value of communication. More knowledge about diabetes can improve your life. Classes are free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required. Diabetes Support Group Nanticoke Memorial Hospital will hold a free diabetes support group on Monday, June 20 from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Medical Staff Conference Room. Are you struggling to make positive behavior changes in your life or would you like to share with others who are coping with diabetes? Come join our free support group for individuals with diabetes. This meeting will feature a presentation on "Obstructive Sleep Apnea" by Dr. Agarwal of Nanticoke's Sleep Disorder Centers and Nanticoke Family Practice in Seaford. Registration is required.
