Taking Charge of Your Health On Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 5:30 p.m. Cancer Support Community and Nanticoke Cancer Care Center will offer Personal Wellness: Taking Charge of Your Health. Jo Allegro-Smith, B.S., M.S. a former Instructor/ Trainer for the YMCA of The USA, will lead you through an interactive program in which you will develop a personalized, three-step action plan to help you take charge of your health and make lasting, positive lifestyle changes. Taking Charge of Your Health will be held in the Resource Library of Nanticoke Cancer Care Center, 701 Middleford Road, Seaford. Register in advance by calling 645-9150. All programs at the Cancer Support Community are offered to people affected by cancer and their loved ones free of charge .Cancer Support Communitys Sussex County Facility is located at 18947 John J. Williams Hwy., Suite 312, Rehoboth. The Cancer Support Community is part of a national nonprofit organization that provides support, education and hope to people with cancer and their loved ones. Through participation in professionally led support groups, educational workshops and mind/body classes, people affected by cancer learn vital skills that enable them to regain control, reduce isolation and restore hope regardless of the stage of disease. Breastfeeding Support Group Breastfeeding is natural, but it doesnt always come naturally! During the early weeks after birth, moms and babies experience challenges as they both learn how to breastfeed. Even the most dedicated nursing moms at times want to give up. On Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m., Nanticoke Memorial Hospital will hold The Moms Circle, a free breastfeeding support group, in the Nursing Conference Room. The Moms Circle is a safe place for moms to come for support, advice and friendship from both experienced nursing moms and new moms. This group meets the first Wednesday of each month. Registration is not required. Activities will include: Interaction with other nursing moms and babies to promote confidence

Bariatric Support Group Nanticoke Weight Loss & General Surgery will host a bariatric support group on Tuesday, Dec. 6 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 26 from 6-7 p.m., in the Medical Staff Conference Room at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. This free support group is designed to provide education and support to patients before and after their bariatric weight loss surgery and is open to the public. Meetings consist of guest speakers and presentations to provide information about nutrition, supplements, exercise and behavior modifications. Festival of Trees Delaware Hospice will host its annual Festival of Trees on Friday, Dec. 2 through Sunday, Dec. 4, at the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford. The festival will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. All proceeds benefit Delaware Hospice including the childrens bereavement program New Hope. Festival of Trees will feature a magnificent display of beautifully decorated trees and wreaths. Also enjoy a Festival Marketplace, Bake Shop, Raffle Tree, Memorial Tree, New Hope Tree and Remembrance Tree. The 2016 Festival of Trees Guest Artist is Shane McCallum. General admission is free. On Saturday, Dec. 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., bring your own camera to take pictures with Santa. No charge, donations welcome. The Mistletoe & Martinis Reception will also take place on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. Enjoy gourmet hors doeuvres by Nage including a macaroni bar, a martini bar, and the upbeat sounds of Junior Wilson. Diabetes Support Group Nanticoke Memorial Hospital will hold a diabetes support group on Monday, Dec. 5 from 5-6 p.m., in the Medical Staff Conference Room. This support group is free and open to the public. As a person with diabetes, are you struggling to make positive behavior changes in your life or would you just like to share with others coping with diabetes? Come join our free support group for individuals with diabetes. This support group meeting will feature a holiday party. Registration is required. Change in support group meetings The Alzheimers Association Delaware Valley Chapter would like to announce that the Caregiver Support Group meeting held at Centenary United Methodist Church, 200 W. Market St., Laurel, will continue to meet twice on the first Tuesday of each month, but beginning Dec. 6, the meeting times will be at 2:30 and again at 5:30 p.m. Caregivers are encouraged to attend these meetings to help manage the stress of providing the care. The meetings are free and open to the public, and all are invited to attend.

Weight loss seminars Nanticoke Weight Loss & General Surgery will host weight loss seminars on Saturday, Dec. 3, Wednesday, Dec. 14 and Saturday, Dec. 17, in the Medical Staff Conference Room at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. These free seminars are designed to provide education to individuals considering weight loss surgery to help them make informed decisions on whether surgery is an appropriate option. The seminars will consist of educational presentations by Dr. Tarek Waked to inform individuals about the many benefits of weight loss surgery.
