Gallery 107 classes
  • Beginning March 2, Nancy LaPrad and Tammy Kearney will offer a morning coffee and painting class for adults from 9 to 11 a.m. Cost is $5 and registration is not required. This is an opportunity to work on an existing painting and/or to obtain help in starting one. These classes are ongoing. Call Tammy at 629-2829 for more information.

Chicken & dumpling dinner The Women of the Moose will hold an all you can eat Chicken & Dumpling Dinner at noon on Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Seaford Moose Family Center located at 22759 Bridgeville Highway, Seaford. The menu includes chicken and dumplings with parsley potatoes, green beans, rolls, dessert, tea and coffee. Cost is $10 per person and $4 for children under 10.

  • "Time Traveling Book Club" will be held the second Thursday of each month starting at 1:30 p.m. This is a home school program for children in 3rd through 6th grade.
  • "S'More Books Club" for kids in 3rd through 5th grade, held on the second Thursday of each month starting at 4 p.m. The kids will read great books, discuss them with friends and do a fun craft.
  • "Livin'/Lovin' Library Club" for kids in 3rd through 6th grade will be held on the third Thursday of each month at 4:30 p.m. Kids will volunteer at the library and learn how it works.
  • Family Fun Night is held every fourth Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m.

Nanticoke Little League signups Nanticoke Little League will hold signups in the West Seaford Elementary School cafeteria on Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. to noon. For more information, contact the league at nanticokelittleleague@yahoo.com. Opening day will be held on May 5.

Bingo Night The Seaford Kiwanis Club is holding its annual Bingo Night, featuring Vera Bradley handbags and Longaberger Baskets, on Saturday, March 24, at the Boys and Girls Club, 310 Virginia Ave., Seaford. There will be raffle handbags and baskets and many door prizes. Refreshments will be available. Must be 18 to play. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the games begin at 7. Yard sale benefits Historical Society Don't throw those seldom used items in the trash. Donate them to the Seaford Historical Society for the yard sale on the Ross Mansion lawn on Saturday, April 28 from 8 a.m. to noon. Vendor spaces of 10'x10' will be available at $10 each with parking for one car or truck at each site. Tables and chairs will be the responsibility of the vendor. To reserve a space, call the SHS office at 628-9828 or email seafordsociety@verizon.net. There will also be some antique items offered from SHS possessions and some items from the gift shops. Baked goods will be for sale. Donated things may be left on the front porch of the Ross Mansion. There will be a gray box for smaller items. All proceeds will help with operating expenses at the Ross Mansion and the Seaford Museum, both properties of the Seaford Historical Society.

Pasta dinner on March 8 West Seaford Elementary School will hold a pasta dinner on Thursday, March 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. to benefit the West Seaford PTO Field Trip Fund. Tickets are $5 for ages 9 and up, $3 for ages 5 to 8 and free for ages 4 and under. Carry out is available. Dinner includes salad, bread, pasta with sauce, and a cookie. Honoring our heroes Grace Baptist Church is serving those who served. They will hold a coffee and talk time every Tuesday afternoon in the fellowship hall at 805 Atlanta Rd., from 3 to 5 p.m. Anyone who has served, or is now serving, in the armed services of the United States are invited to join to share your memories. Miss Seaford Scholarship Pageant The Seaford Lioness Club is looking for young ladies who are freshmen, sophomores or juniors (not over 17 years of age), who reside and attend school in Seaford School District or Sussex Tech, to participate in the Miss Seaford Scholarship Pageant. Each contestant will be asked to compete in 3 categories - interview, talent and evening gown. Eat at the Roadhouse for SHS The benefit night for the Seaford Historical Society (SHS) at the Seaford Texas Roadhouse is Thursday, March 1 from 4 to 10 p.m. Coupons to qualify for Texas Roadhouse donating 10% of sales that night are available from SHS members or from the office at 203 High St., 628-9828. Project unveiling In celebration of Karen Owens' art classes and her talented students at Gallery 107, parents, participating students, and the public are invited to the unveiling of the group's most recent project at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24. A "punch & cookies" reception will follow.

National Pancake Day Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and IHOP restaurants will celebrate National Pancake Day on Tuesday, Feb. 28 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. IHOP will be offering a free short stack of its famous buttermilk pancakes to each guest and, in return, diners will be asked to leave a little something behind for Johns Hopkins Children's Center.

'Puttin' On The Ritz' concert The Southern Delaware Choral Society will give a "Puttin' On The Ritz" concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, at Seaford High School. Dulcimer Music Program A program developed around dulcimer music and the folk sounds associated with this ancient instrument will be presented at the Laurel Public Library on Wednesday, March 21, in the Carpenter Community Room at 6:30 p.m. Seaford resident and area musician John Kisela will be on hand to play melodies, and to discuss the artistry and history of a stringed instrument that is often associated with Appalachian or mountain music. The program will consist of a variety of seasonal songs and discussions, is appropriate for ages 12 and over, and will last for approximately one hour. Public forum on preservation plan Help update the statewide historic preservation plan and join your neighbors to discuss the needs and issues facing historic places in Delaware. Vegetable gardening basics Master gardener Linda Peters will present an informal workshop on the basics of planting vegetable gardens at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, at the Laurel Public Library. Peters has served as president of the Laurel Garden Club and participates with the master gardening program at the Georgetown Extension Office. This program will cover topics like the best locations and soil types for a vegetable garden, and techniques of fertilizing and watering the young plants or seedlings. Home energy saving workshop Come to the Laurel Public Library on Wednesday, March 7, to learn how you can save energy in your home and reduce your utility costs. The workshop is being offered twice, one at 1 p.m. and a second at 6 p.m. The workshop will be presented by Charles Kistler from Kina'ole Group LLC which specializes in energy management services. The workshop will help you understand your home as a system of interrelated parts, identify home energy-based problems, and come up with a simple action plan for reducing energy.   • An English as a Second Language (ESL) classes will be offered at the Laurel Public Library. ESL computer basics classes are running from noon to 1:30 p.m., Fridays for six weeks.

Pack 90 news Cub Scout Pack 90 in Laurel meets every Monday night at 6:30, at Centenary U.M.C. On Saturday, March 3, Laurel's Cub Scouts will hold their annual Pinewood Derby Race at Centenary U.M.C. Antique dolls at Laurel Library The Laurel Public Library will hold a program exploring the history and value of antique dolls at 6:30 p.m. on Wed., Feb. 29, in the Carpenter Community Room. Doll expert and Laurel native Karen Hopkins Pugh will present a brief overview of the history of dolls, and the different types that are considered collectible. She will then move into a session of sharing, evaluation, and informal appraisal of dolls. Beef and dumpling dinner The Friends of the Laurel Library will have an annual beef and dumpling dinner at the Delmar VFW on Sunday, Feb. 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. The fundraiser is a benefit for the Children's Program at the library. Entertainment, door prizes and a raffle are part of the event. Tickets may be purchased at the Laurel Library or any member of the Friends. Prices are $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12.

Spaghetti benefit dinner An all you can eat spaghetti dinner will be held on Feb. 19 from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Delmar Fire Hall to benefit Theresa Bradley who is fighting cancer. Later that afternoon, Munch & Learn: Pizza Party, from 3 to 3:40 p.m., is for students in grades 5 through 8 focusing on planning careers and earning a living wage. Celebrate chocolate at the library In honor of Chocolate Month, the Greenwood Public Library will hold its 5th Annual Chocolate Lovers' Night on Friday, Feb. 24, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Greenwood VFW Hall. Whip up your tastiest chocolate dessert and enter it in the Best Chocolate Dessert contest. Those who attend will be our judges, sampling each entry and voting on their favorites. The top two winners of the Best Chocolate Dessert contest will each receive a prize from Sweet Serenity Chocolates of Seaford.

There will be several chocolate-related activities to enjoy, including a chocolate trivia quiz, guess the number of M & M's contest, and cocoa bingo. The Greenwood VFW Hall is located on the corner of Mill Street and Governors Avenue in Greenwood. The program is free and open to all. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.   • Hand-sewing classes - The Greenwood Library will continue their series of programs designed to teach children the art of hand-sewing on the following dates in March: Thursday, March 8, at 3 p.m. and Thursday, March 22, at 3 p.m. Children will learn how to sew on buttons, make simple stitches, and create easy projects that will lead them to designing projects of their own. Students will need to bring their own scissors and needle threader.
  • Acting classes - Children who can read independently are invited to attend a series of acting classes conducted by Karin Kalinevitch at the Greenwood Public Library on the following dates: Monday, March 5, at 3 p.m. and Monday, March 19 at 3 p.m. Children will participate in a variety of exercises, including Reader's Theater and Role Playing, all designed to inspire confidence and imagination.
  • LEGO Night - LEGO Night returns on Tuesday, March 20, at 6:30 p.m. Bring your own LEGOS and join in the fun! Sponsored by the library, the event will be held at the Greenwood VFW Post 7478, located on the corner of Mill Street and Governors Avenue, one block behind the Greenwood Public Library.

Fundraiser at Cafe Tamburelli's The Friends of the Greenwood Public Library invite you to support the library while enjoying a meal at Café Tamburelli's located at 3 West Market St. in Greenwood on Tuesday, March 13 from 4 to 10 p.m. The Friends of the Greenwood Library will receive a percentage of proceeds, which will be used to help fund the construction of a new library in Greenwood. Bridgeville Municipal Election Candidate filing and voter registration continue for the Bridgeville Municipal Election, scheduled for Saturday, March 3, in the Town Hall with voting from noon to 7 p.m. Election voting districts #1, #2 and #3 will each vote for a candidate from their district to represent them on the Commission for a two-year term at this election. Every resident of the town who is at least 18 years of age and has resided in the town at least 30 days shall have one vote in his/her voting district election, provided he/she has registered on the "Books of Registered Voters" of the Town of Bridgeville. A person may register at the Town Hall Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. No person shall be registered after the close of business on Feb. 22. Absentee balloting will be available for this election.

Storyteller presents program Marie Gormley-Tarleton, storyteller and impersonator, will present a program, "Passing through Ellis Island," at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, at the Bridgeville Public Library. Her story will be told as seen from the eyes of an eight-year-old Irish immigrant girl. Marie's storytelling quickly transports you to the time and place. The Friends of the Bridgeville Library are pleased to offer this program in March when so many people are celebrating St. Patrick's Day. Refreshments will be served and donations are always welcomed.

'Swing into Spring' Welcome spring with the Friends of the Bridgeville Library with the sounds of The Smooth Sound Dance Band who will recreate the big band sound of the '30's and '40's on Saturday, March 31 from 7:30 to 10 p.m., in the Heritage Shores Ballroom in Bridgeville. Starting at 7 p.m. before the dance, Aggie Beletsky, a dance instructor with Dancing on the Shore, will offer free lessons in swing dancing. The event includes a choice of dessert cakes, coffee and tea, a cash bar as well as a 50/50 raffle and a contest for the couple with the best '40's outfit. Ticket holders will receive a free appetizer. Departing from the senior center at 9 a.m. Cost is $85 for members and $90 for non-members, which includes a boxed lunch, admission to the show, and bus transportation (tip for the driver is not included). There will be a dinner stop at Cracker Barrel in Downington for an early dinner, so bring money for your meal. Trip to historic New Castle The Seaford Historical Society will sponsor a trip to the town of historic New Castle on Wednesday, April 18. The cost is $65 per person which includes all tour fees, lunch and motor coach transportation. New Castle had its beginnings in the middle 17th century as a Dutch military outpost called Fort Casimir and then as Delaware's colonial and first state capital. Historic New Castle provides an opportunity without equal for visitors seeking a real historic experience. The Amstel House, Dutch House and Old Court House are just three of many authentically preserved historic buildings in this Historic Landmark District. We will have a guided tour of those three locations as well as an opportunity to look at two early churches, the old Library and walk around the Strand and Battery Park. Lunch will be served by a wait staff in period colonial attire at historic Jessop's Tavern. All entrees will include drinks, rolls and dessert. The choices are: 1. Thirteen Colonies Chowder and Tavern Salad; 2. Fish and Chips served with cole slaw (voted best in Delaware); 3. Hutspot Dutch Pot Roast served with mashed potatoes.
