Garden Day at Ross Mansion Celebrate National Garden Week on Saturday, June 9, with the Spade and Trowel Garden Club during "Garden Day at Ross Mansion." From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the club and other vendors will offer garden-related items including plants large and small and hand-made, one-of-a-kind hypertufa creations. Light refreshments will be available for purchase. Ross Mansion is located at 510 Pine Street Ext., across from the Seaford Public Library. Admission is free. Vendor space is available at $10. Gallery 107 art classes Canvas & Coffee - ongoing adult classes each Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. with Nancy LaPrad and Tammy Kearney. This unstructured class gives the opportunity to work on an existing painting and/or to obtain instruction in beginning one. Cost is $5 and registration is not required. SHS plans activities The Seaford Historical Society is planning several events in June. The annual summer picnic is at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, at the Seaford Moose Lodge on Route 13A. Reservations are required by calling the SHS office at 628-9828 by June 2. Cost is $6 per person. Each family is asked to bring a covered dish of a vegetable, salad or dessert. Chicken and beverage will be provided. After dinner entertainment will be by local vocalist Mikki Madden. A special program by speaker Russ McCabe will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 18, at the Manor House in Seaford. McCabe, a Delaware historian, will talk about the 50 sites on the newly established Delaware history trail, of which the Ross Mansion is included. This program is free and open to the public. The SHS will sponsor a trip to Hillwood Estate and Gardens, Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, June 20, leaving at 7:30 a.m. Reservations are required by calling the SHS office at 628-9828 by June 10. Basket Bingo at LifeCare LifeCare at Lofland Park will hold a Longaberger Basket Bingo on Thursday, June 21, at 7 p.m. at the Seaford Moose Lodge, located on Route 13A in Seaford. The filled basket bingo will consist of 20 exciting games and will feature several Longaberger baskets as prizes. Advance tickets are $20 per person, $25 at the door. An advance ticket includes a chance to win the Longaberger Large Stowaway basket and Getaway Tote. Nearly 30 chances to win. Refreshments will be available. Garden Club presents flower show Admission is free at the Spade and Trowel Garden Club's flower show, "A Journey through Time," scheduled for Tuesday, June 12, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Seaford Public Library. Flowers picked at their peak will be on display, competing in horticultural exhibits, and floral designs will be entered in pursuit of a blue ribbon from the judges. See whether you agree which is the best. Look for entries from members of the Spade and Trowel Kids Garden Club based at the Western Sussex Boys and Girls Club. Summer cruise-ins begin Harley-Davidson of Seaford's summer cruise-ins begin Friday evening at the dealership. The cruise-ins are set for the last Friday of May, June, July and August and are sponsored by Nationwide Insurance, Fast Lane Biker Magazine, The Beach and BIG radio stations as well as WMDT TV-47 and CW3. The opening event will feature the band Anything Goes and runs from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Enchanted Forrest located next to the dealership. The event is open to all motorcyclists and cars are welcome. K&R Concessions will have food and the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department will sell beverages. The event is free to attend. Future cruise-ins will feature the band Freshly Squeezed on June 29 and the July 27 event will be a Toys For Tots Christmas In July event featuring the band Semiblind and DJ JoyStar. Class of '65 Birthday Party The Seaford High School Class of 1965 is busy planning for their BIG 65th Birthday Party to be held on Saturday, June 30. LHS dinner and presentation Approximately 25 years ago, the distinct architectural styles found on homes and buildings in the central part of Laurel were recognized with a district nomination for the National Register of Historic Places. The Laurel Historical Society was instrumental in this honor, and is now celebrating this silver anniversary with a fundraising dinner and presentation with Dr. Sue Fox, history professor at Wesley College. Dr. Fox was the lead for the 1987 survey project and will be presenting a slide show, Seeing Laurel Through New Eyes, which will illustrate the architectural features found on buildings throughout town and the surrounding areas. This year, the dinner and presentation are open to the public and will take place on Thursday, June 14, at the Laurel High School cafeteria. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and a short business meeting of the society will commence at 6 p.m. Dinner will follow around 6:30 and Dr. Fox's slide show will be shown in the school auditorium immediately after. The cost of the dinner and talk is $20 per person and reservations must be made by June 7. Pre-registration can be made by calling 875-7665. Seating in the cafeteria is limited so early registrations are encouraged.

Benefit Dance for Troop 90 The parents of Boy Scout Troop 90, Laurel will hold a Benefit Dance with music by The Jones Boys from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 30 at the Laurel American Legion. Proceeds will be used to send the scouts to summer camp in July. Cost is $10 per person. Light snacks will be available and there will be a silent auction. ALS Walk at Laurel Middle The Laurel Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society is hosting its 4th Annual ALS - Lou Gehrig's Disease Walk on Saturday, June 9. This is a one hour walk and can be done any time between 9 and 11 a.m., in front of the Laurel Middle School. There is no registration fee; walkers are encouraged to form teams. The goal is for each team to raise a minimum of $50. All proceeds will go to the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the ALS Association. Broad Creek Byway Bike Tour The Laurel Chamber of Commerce will host the first annual Broad Creek Byway Bike Tour on June 2. The tour begins on Central Avenue and includes a choice of flat, scenic 5, 25 or 50 mile loops in and around the Broad Creek area. The route is designed to highlight portions of the historic and scenic Western Sussex Byway and our waterways. Rest stops include Phillips Landing and Trap Pond. Event sponsors include Pepsi, Adkins Land Surveying, Fulton Bank, Bank of Delmarva, The Car Store, Randy Hill - Callaway, Farnell & Moore Inc., Trap Pond Partners, Edward Jones Investments, Insurance Market, M&T Bank, S.R. Pete & Sons Inc., Deborah Mitchell - Travel Debi and Kathy Porter - Kathy the Avon Lady. In coordination with the event, Odd Fellow Charity Lodge 27 Laurel will be selling barbecue chicken and the Odd Fellows Rebekah Lodge will be selling homemade ice cream beginning at 10 a.m. Tony Windsor will entertain from 10 a.m. to noon. The community is invited to stop by for chicken, ice cream and music. Cost for the tour is $50 per adult, $30 per child (ages 5 to 16), and children under 5 are free. Delmar Day in the Park This year's 36th Annual Festival sponsored by the Greater Delmar Chamber of Commerce will be held on Saturday, June 2 from 10 a.m to 6 p.m. Rain date is Saturday, June 16. There will be many craft, food and informational vendors, along with several other vendors from businesses, churches, food, raffles, kiddie train ride, games, other attractions, live entertainment and more. Since this is the chamber's largest fundraising event of the year, the goal is to raise enough funds from donations and sponsorships to cover all of the costs for the festival. Funds raised from the games and attractions can then be used for other events throughout the year and usual expenses. Sandwich Sale Delmar Church of God of Prophecy located on Rt. 13 north and Dorothy Road, 3 miles north of the Maryland/Delaware state, is having a Sandwich Sale on Saturday, June 2 from 9 am until. BBQ chicken dinner A BBQ chicken dinner will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, at St. Stephen's UMC, Camelot Hall, 101 E. State St., Delmar. Cost is $8 per meal. Take out or eat in. This event is sponsored by the church's Relay for Life Team.

Twilight Cheerleading Camp The Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay will sponsor a Twilight Cheerleading Camp for girls in kindergarten through fifth grade on June 19-21, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Delmar Middle/High School. The Delmar High School Varsity Cheerleading Squad will be the instructors. Activities will include stretching, tumbling, arm movements, chants, dance, and building skills. Cost is $25 per girl for registered Girl Scouts and $37 for non-registered girls. Girls should wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. Financial assistance is available. Club cars for sale The Delmarva Model Railroad Club, located at 103 S. State St., Delmar, is selling club cars for their non-profit organization. The car is an HO scale Maryland & Delaware 40-foot double door box car. It was custom built for the club by Athearn and it is ready to run with metal wheels and knuckle spring couplers. Annual Greenwood Spring Festival The Greenwood Mennonite School will be hosting its 26th Annual Greenwood Spring Festival, Saturday, June 2, on the school grounds in Greenwood. The event and the parking are free. The day begins with an old-fashioned, all-you-can-eat breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. The outdoor booths are open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring hundreds of items, including fresh-made foods, chicken barbeque, pork barbeque, seafood - including crab cakes, baked goods, fresh made doughnuts, homemade ice cream, milkshakes, fresh fruit smoothies, handcrafted items, plants, crafts; plus a petting zoo, children's games and prizes, a white elephant booth and more. Activities include the Spring Festival Auction, Amish cart and pony rides and various entertainments; live music throughout the day with various local artists and church worship teams. Softball tournaments will be held. The highlight of the event will be a live concert with Christian recording artist, song writer and six time GMA Dove Award nominee, Matt Maher. Father/Daughter Dance The Woodbridge Pop Warner will sponsor a Father/Daughter dance on Saturday, June 2, at the Greenwood VFW from 6 to 9 p.m. Pictures will be taken for a small fee. All ladies are invited to join us with their dad, uncle, grandpa or big brother. Free refreshments will be served. Cost is $10 for a dad and daughter and additional daughters are $5 each. AARP Defensive Driver Safety Course An AARP Defensive Driving Safety Course will be held at the Greenwood Cheer Activity Center on Monday, June 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. This is a one day refresher course. Cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. You must pre-register for this course. Checks should be made payable to AARP.   • The Cheer Center is accepting new members. Anyone over the age of 50 who schedules a tour of the center will enjoy a complimentary lunch and is invited to learn about all the activities and trips at the center. Panel discussion at the library Seven authors will present a panel discussion on "Publishing and Beyond" at the Bridgeville Public Library from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 16. The following authors will be present: James Diehl, local author, WWII film producer with a new book released this spring; Hannah Butler, local author of a "Busy Mom's Guide"; Colleen Faulkner, author of more than 60 books in various genres; Judith E. French, author of 38 novels and five novellas; Karen Kalinevitch, numerous academic published writings and professor of creative writing; Terry McAnally, published through Amazon.com publishing; and Mary-Margaret Pauer, winner of Emerging Artist of the Year award 2011 for short stories. If you are an avid reader, an aspiring author or someone who loves books, this is an event you must attend. It is free and open to all. Donations are welcome. Old Firehouse Museum open The Old Firehouse Museum of the Bridgeville Historical Society will be open on Sunday, June 3, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The museum is located at 102 William St., next to Cahall Park, and exhibits items relating to the history of the northwest quadrant of Sussex County. Admission is free.

Student artwork on display On display at the Bridgeville Public Library for the month of May is artwork created by students of Phyllis Wheatley Middle School (PWMS), Woodbridge School District. Projects include figure drawings, blue heron and tree reflection landscapes, and American lighthouses. Students used artistic skills to bring awareness to the problem of African elephant poaching. Hillwood Estate and Gardens The Seaford Historical Society will sponsor a trip to the Hillwood Estate and Gardens on Wednesday, June 20. The cost is $70 per person which includes all tour fees, lunch and motor coach transportation. Hillwood is the 25 acre estate of Post Cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post. Located in northwest Washington, D.C., the estate is filled with priceless art works and antiques. There are also 13 acres of formal gardens and a working greenhouse. In addition to the permanent collection of Russian art and Faberge icons, there will be a special exhibit, Pret-A-Papier, an exquisite collection of unusual and historic paper fashions.
