Bingo at the Elks Lodge
Bingo at the Seaford Elks Lodge is held every Wednesday night.
Doors open at 5:30 and play begins at 7. Cash prizes up to the maximum allowed by law.

2016 Lecture Series
The Seaford Historical Society (SHS) has kicked off its 2016 Lecture Series at the Manor House, 1001 Middleford Rd., Seaford. The lecture series will be held the first Monday of the month through May at 7:15 p.m. Admission is free. After a summer hiatus the series will begin again in September and run through November. Gallery 107 Art Classes
The following classes are scheduled for April at Seaford Gallery 107. Details are provided online at nanticokeriverartscouncil.org/Classes.html.
The Gallery is located in Seaford, at 324 High St. Hours are 1-5 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Classes are conducted around the corner at 105 Pine St.
No special classes are scheduled for the month.

Ongoing classes
Mondays, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. - Open studio time for artists of all media who wish to work in a group setting. The open studio will be available for individuals ages 16 and older who like to paint with others. No instruction will be available although you can learn more in a group setting. Cost is $5.
Fridays, 10 a.m. to noon - Canvas and Coffee with Tammy Kearney and Nancy Laprad, $5.
Oil Painting workshops with Linda Steere:
Tuesdays, April 5, 12, 19, 26 & May 3 from 3-5:30 p.m. Cost is $85/members and $95/public or Saturdays, April 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 & May 7 from 3-5:30 p.m. Cost is $100/members and $110/public.
Oil painting workshop with Linda Steere for adults (14+) with some past painting experience. Students can paint in the style of their choice. They can also choose their subject matter as long as it is not another artist's work or photo. Please register at Gallery 107 one week in advance. WWII photo exhibit
The Seaford Museum is pleased to host a photo exhibit, in collaboration with the Delaware Division of Historical & Cultural Affairs, of the WWII photographs of Army photographer, William D. Willis. The exhibit, 'Through the Lens,' shows the perspective of a Southern Delaware native who photographed the war as he saw it, as well as the war years here at home.
The exhibit will be in the Web Exhibit Room until June.
The Seaford Museum is located in the old Post Office on High Street in Seaford and will be open to the public on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1 to 4.

Spring Fever Fundraiser
Celebrate spring at Hooper's Landing on Saturday, April 2 from 6-10 p.m. during the Nanticoke Senior Center's annual fundraiser. Enjoy an hors d'oeuvre buffet and cash bar. Listen to the mellow saxophone of Everett Spells while sampling great food and cocktails. Bid on dozens of silent auction items and then dance the night away to the music of the fabulous Funsters.
Tickets are $40 each or two for $75 and can be purchased at the Nanticoke Senior Center which is located at Hooper's Landing, 1001 W. Locust St., Seaford, or online at nanticokeseniorcenter.com.

Seaford CAN collects canned goods
Now through April 4, Seaford CAN, a group of citizens helping to raise awareness and canned goods for the Food Bank of Delaware, is collecting canned goods for the Food Bank's annual CANgineering competition, a statewide effort encouraging organizations to build structures out of cans to help alleviate hunger.
Donations may be brought to the Seaford Library or one of the many sponsors which include Davelli's Bagel Cafe, Trinity Transport, Encounter Praise and Worship Center, Stein Highway Church of God, Lighthouse Church, ACE Peer Resource Center, OneMain Financial, Food Lion, IHOP and Friendly's.
Donations from the food drive will be used to build a structure at the Seaford Library for the CANgineering Competition.

Basket Bingo at Senior Center

Pre-Job Fair Workshop
The Seaford Library Job Center/Inspiration Space will be offering a Workshop 'How to Prepare for a Job Fair' on April 11 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Seaford Library Woodruff Room.
Members of three local businesses will serve on a panel and offer their recommendations and advice on how a job seeker should prepare for a job fair. They will also be available to answer questions.
This event will help job seekers prepare for the Western Sussex Job Fair schedule for April 26 at the Seaford High School Gym from noon to 4:00 p.m. There is no charge for this workshop.

Docent Training
Docent Training will be held at the Ross Mansion on Monday, April 11 from 2-4 p.m. and Wednesday, April 13 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Call the Seaford Historical Society office at 628-9828 by Wednesday, April 6 to RSVP.

Wreath Making Class
Mary Vining Chapter, DAR, will hold a Wreath Making (spring theme) class on Tuesday, April 12 at the American Legion in Seaford. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event starts at 6:30.
Join us for a night of creative fun and social gathering. Make a spring wreath to keep or give as a gift. Event proceeds will help DAR support other community groups, such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, ROTC, Seaford Library, Bridgeville Library, Laurel Library, Delmar Library, veterans, and local schools, etc.

Little Miss and Miss Seaford Pageant
The Little Miss and Miss Seaford Pageant, sponsored by the Seaford Lioness Club, will be held on Friday, April 15.
Twelve Little Miss contestants will be accepted. Little Miss contestants must be kindergarteners or first graders who live and attend school in Seaford. Miss Seaford is open to freshmen, sophomores and juniors who reside and attend school in the Seaford School District or reside in Seaford and attend Sussex Tech.

Kiwanis Club offers scholarships
The Kiwanis Club of Seaford is offering three scholarships to graduating seniors residing in the Seaford School District or attending Seaford High School.
Each scholarship is $4,000. Two are funded by the Seaford Kiwanis Foundation and one is funded by the Seaford Kiwanis Foundation and the Janosik Foundation.
Scholarship applications are available at the Seaford High School Guidance Office or by contacting Fred Glime at 629-3652.The application deadline is April 13.

Pack 381 Paint Party fundraiser
Cub Scout Pack 381 will hold a paint party fundraiser featuring Paint Parties by Maria Turner on Saturday, April 16 from 7-9 p.m. at Gethsemane United Methodist Church, 2701 Woodland Ferry Rd., Seaford.
Cost is $35 per guest. Recommended age is 13 and up. No painting experience necessary. All materials will be provided to create your own canvas masterpiece.

Basket Bingo Party
Hebron Lodge #14 of Seaford, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, will hold its annual Basket Bingo Party at the Federalsburg (Md.) VFW on Thursday, April 21 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 and the games will run from 7 to 9:30.
There will be 21 games. Prizes will be Longaberger baskets or accessories. Door prizes will be drawn throughout the games depending on how many prizes are donated. One basket will be drawn as a raffle item and one basket will be drawn for those games that have more than one winner.
Chicken salad sandwiches, hot dogs, cakes and pies will be available for purchase. Potato chips, pretzels and drinks will be provided at no cost.
Tickets are $25 each. Save $5 per ticket if you buy your tickets early. For groups of 10 or more, the tenth ticket is free and every tenth ticket after.
Consider becoming a sponsor or donating a door prize if you are unable to attend.

Longaberger Bingo
Longaberger Bingo for the Seaford Library will be held on Thursday, April 21 at the Seaford Moose, 22759 Bridgeville Hwy. Doors open at 6 p.m. and Bingo starts at 7. Food and drink will be available for purchase.

NHS to hold Basket Bingo
The Employee Activity Committee of Nanticoke Health Services will hold a Longaberger Basket Bingo at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, at the Seaford Moose Lodge located on Rt. 13A, Seaford.
The event will include 20 games with Longaberger baskets as prizes. Advance tickets are $20 per person, $25 at the door. Advance ticket includes a chance to win the large hamper, wrought iron organizer stand and baskets. Nearly 30 chances to win. Refreshments will be available.

Mother's Day Tea
The Seaford Historical Society will host a Victorian Tea for Mother's Day at the Ross Mansion on Thursday, May 5 from 2-4 p.m. Cost is $20 per person. Advance reservations are required and not confirmed until payment is received. Call Phyllis at 536-7194 for reservations and more information. The deadline to make reservations is Friday, April 29.
Tea will be served by Society members dressed in period style. The menu includes fresh fruit compote, savory tea sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, raspberry curd and jams, desserts and English teas. There will also be a special from the 'Teapot' drawing.

AAUW Geranium Sale
The Western Sussex Branch of AAUW is taking orders for their annual geranium sale to raise scholarship money for a local high school student, a Del Tech student going on for an advanced degree, and a Delaware Space Academy student.
Lakeside Greenhouse in Laurel will provide quality red, white, pink, salmon, and fuchsia geraniums. Cost for each 6' pot is $4.50. To order, call 629-4619.
Plants will be available for pick-up at the West Seaford Elementary School parking lot across from the Nanticoke Senior Center on Saturday, April 30 from 8-11 a.m. Geraniums that have not been picked up by 11 a.m. will be sold to the public.

Smith designs on display
For a limited time, the Laurel Historical Society will display original designs of Nancy Smith, an Italian immigrant who moved to America in 1921, finally settling in Laurel in 1941 with her husband James Lee Smith, a Merchant Marine from Portsville.
Nancy launched her sewing business to care for her two small children following the death of her husband in 1958 when he was lost at sea. Nancy's business thrived for four decades.
Known throughout the Delmarva Peninsula for her stylish sewing and creativity, Nancy will be remembered mostly for the nearly 200 wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses she fashioned from pictures. She especially liked working with brides because 'they're so radiant - and I can give them some motherly advice and a few Italian recipes.'
These designs may be viewed the first Sunday of each month from 1-4 p.m. at the Laurel Heritage Museum, 215 Mechanic St., Laurel.

Learn about Medicare programs
Staff from Nanticoke Memorial Hospital will give a program on Medicare, Managed Medicare, and the differences between them at Laurel Public Library at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 31. Kindergarten registration
Children who will be 5-years-old by Aug. 31 and live in the Laurel School District can be registered for the 2016-17 kindergarten program. Staff will be available at Dunbar Elementary to meet with parents from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6 and Thursday, April 7.
Legal guardians are required to enroll with the child's birth certificate, immunization record, proof of residency, and medical card. They will also be asked to present a picture ID. Children do not need to attend.

Miss Laurel, Little Miss Laurel Pageant
The Miss Laurel and Little Miss Laurel Pageant, presented by the Laurel Lioness Club, will be held on Friday, April 8, at Laurel Middle School.
Miss Laurel is open to freshmen, sophomore and junior girls who live in the Laurel School District. Only the first 12 applications are accepted. Little Miss Laurel is open to girls ages 4 through first grade who live in the Laurel School District. Only the first 15 applications are accepted.

Twinkle Dance Club Dinner/Dance

Delmar Alumni Banquet
The 14th Annual Delmar Alumni Association Banquet will be held on Saturday, April 23 at the Delmar Fire Hall. Social hour will begin at 5 p.m. followed by a ham, fried chicken, and crab cake dinner.
The highlight of the evening will be the introduction of the 2016 scholarship recipients.
As in past years, Chinese, silent, and live auctions will be held, and all monies collected from the auctions will go directly to the student scholarship fund. Democratic Spring Dinner
US Senator Chris Coons and Joe Trippi, political consultant and former Howard Dean for President campaign chair, will headline the Sussex County Democratic Party's annual Spring Dinner.

The dinner is Saturday, April 9, at Heritage Shores Country Club, Bridgeville. The reception is at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7.
Coons, elected to the US Senate in 2010, filling the last four years of the six year term of now Vice President Joe Biden, and re-elected in 2014, will be the keynote speaker. Also expected are most all statewide candidates seeking election this year as well as current elected officials.
The meal is a sit-down dinner and the dinner choices are chicken cordon bleu or salmon. Tickets are $60 each.

Programs at the library
Kids Book Club - Let's Read Together is a book club for children in kindergarten through second grade. This club is about reading books, making crafts, and meeting new friends. The Caroline County Public Library has partnered with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to provide a specially selected book each month for a preschool child until their 5th birthday.
A tax-deductible gift of $25 will provide a high quality, age-appropriate book each month for one year, mailed directly to a Caroline County child's home.
Stop by the Caroline County Public Library, pick an Imagination Library train from the tree, and share the joy of reading.

Free teen movie

AARP Quarter Auction
Georgetown AARP Chapter 5340 will meet on April 4, May 2, June 6.

Car Seat Safety Check
Is your child's car seat safe? Join the Caroline County Public Library as we partner with Maryland Kids in Safety Seats (KISS) for a car seat inspection on Saturday, April 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Certified KISS technicians will be at the Central Library in Denton, Md. to perform evaluations and answer questions regarding safety seats.

New Faces of Shakespeare
Possum Point Players' New Faces of Shakespeare in Georgetown will hold open auditions for Much Ado About Nothing on April 10-11 from 6-9 p.m. with call backs on April 13. All ages, ethnicities, orientation and levels of experience are encouraged to audition. Auditioners should prepare a two minute Shakespeare monologue. Performances are June 29-30, July 1.

Spaghetti Dinner and Auction
The Sussex County 4-H will hold a spaghetti dinner and auction on Saturday, April 16, at the Georgetown Fire Hall. Dinner is at 5 p.m., live auction begins at 6:30, the silent auction will be held from 5-7.
Tickets are $10 for ages 12-adult; $5 for ages 4-11; and free for ages 3 and under. Take-outs are $8.

Marvil Packing Company discussion
During the late 1800s, Joshua Marvil patented the basket designs that were made at his factories in Laurel and Chestertown and Sharptown, Md.
Salisbury University's Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture explores these designs and their history during the roundtable discussion 'Coopered Vegetable and Fruit Baskets of Delmarva: The Marvil Packing Company' from 1:30-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 23.
The event, in conjunction with the presentation 'Woven Traditions: Maryland Basket-Making Communities and Culture, Past and Present,' is held at the center's gallery, 190 Wayne St.
Led by Dr. Kathleen Beauchesne, director of the Maryland-based Center for Research in Basketry, Inc., the discussion includes area residents who worked for Marvil, as well as the Eastern Shore canning industry.
Marvil's baskets were based on a round wooden base with a hole in the center and wooden hoops that stabilized and formed the rim, much like coopered barrels used for easy rolling onto ships. The presentation highlights the importance of basketry to the Delmarva Peninsula's fruit and vegetable industry.
Baskets from the collections of the Westside Historical Society and Adkins Historical and Museum Complex of Mardela Springs and the Historical Society of Kent County will be on display during the discussion. Those attending are encouraged to bring their own baskets to show the group.

Marine Park Festival
The 4th Annual Nanticoke River Marine Park Festival sponsored by the Nanticoke River Sail and Power Squadron will be held on Sunday, May 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Nanticoke River Marina in Blades. This year's theme is Safe Boating On The Nanticoke.

Del Tech offers trip to Alaska
Delaware Technical Community College has partnered with Collette, a premier travel experiences company, to offer the community an opportunity to explore Alaska by land and sea. Ten percent of the cost of each trip booked is donated to Delaware Tech to fund scholarships for underprivileged children in Sussex County to attend summer camps and courses at Delaware Tech's Kids on Campus Program.
The Alaska trip, featuring Denali National Park and days of sightseeing from an amazing cruise ship, runs from May 24 through June 5, 2016. The $4,249 per person (based on double occupancy) price includes round trip airfare, lodging, 21 meals, and the daily tours of scenic and wild places. Highlights of the trip include: Denali National Park, Mount McKinley, Glacier Bay, Juneau, and a seven night Princess cruise aboard a fabulous floating resort.

Fight against illegal drugs
The Sussex County Action Prevention Coalition (SCAPC) meets the first Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Lighted Pathway Building, 425 E. Stein Hwy., Seaford.
The group is dedicated to the prevention of substance abuse, addictions and other life related problems. Their vision is to ensure that the residents of Sussex County have access to the resources, services, and prevention needed and to implement strategies that will result in the reduction of the abuse and misuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other substances.

9-12 Delaware Patriots meetings
The 9-12 Delaware Patriots meet twice monthly to discuss local, statewide and national issues, legislation, current events and upcoming elections. Elected officials, candidates and well known speakers/presenters are often in attendance.
