SHS lecture on May 7 Seaford Historical Society 2018 Lecture Series continues on Monday, May 7.The guest lecturer will be Maria Heyssel, a former SHS president and longtime active member. Heyssel will discuss nylon, its history, the plant, and its effect on Seaford and the world.This information was collected in 2015 when the society celebrated the 75th anniversary of the first nylon production. Department 56 at Seaford Museum The Seaford Museum is featuring a Department 56 Exhibit through May. In the 1980s, Department 56 started making high quality porcelain models of 18th century English housing and people and has since branched out into other times and areas. This exhibit, with more than 120 buildings, several hundred people, trees, bushes, and signs is featured in the Webb Room of the Seaford Museum. Because this collection is tied with the Christmas season, look closely to see if you can locate any Santa Clauses checking to see who is being naughty and who is being nice! Following this exhibit, the Webb Room will feature a World War I exhibit with posters from the Smithsonian and other artifacts from the museums collection throughout the summer. The museum, located in the old Post Office on High Street, is open Thursday through Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.The Department 56 Exhibit is part of the $7 museum entrance fee or $3 for only the Webb Room entrance.

Altzheimers support Milton Senior Center located at 24855 Broadkill Road hosts an Alzheimers Association Caregiver Support Group on the second Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. This is a free program and any interested persons are urged to attend. If you are caring for someone who has any type of dementia, this is the time to get all your questions answered. There is no registration required, just show up. We hope to see you there. There are more than five million Americans who had Alzheimers disease (AD) now, and, by mid-century, that number will triple up to about 16 million. Women are almost twice as likely as men to develop AD and account for almost two thirds of those five million.
Corvette Club meeting The Beachcombers Corvette Club of Southern Delaware meets the first Thursday of each month atthe CHEER Center, 20520 Sand Hill Rd., Georgetown.
9-12 Delaware Patriots The 9-12 Delaware Patriots meetings are taking place. Kent County meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month. Sussex County meetings are held the second Thursday of each month.
Transportation for veterans In Sussex County there are several transportation opportunities available for our veterans. One of them is located in Seaford. This eight passenger van carries veterans to and from the VA Hospital in Elsmere and to and from the VA Clinic in Dover. It tries to operate on Mondays and Wednesdays but will transport at other times if needed. If you need this transportation, call the dispatcher at 302-858-7588.
Sewing classes Sign up for sewing classes at Butlers Sewing Center in the Nylon Capital Shopping Center in Seaford. The classes will benefit the beginners as well as the more experienced. Classes are through December. Come by or call Shirley Butler at 629-9155 and she will put you in the right class. Butlers also teaches quilting classes.
