Bennett will teach at seminar
Rita Bennett, who, along with her late husband, Dennis, wrote the million-copy best seller, "The Holy Spirit and You," will be teaching a condensed version of the book at an all-day seminar on Saturday, Dec. 3, at Christ Evangelistic Church in Laurel, beginning at 8 a.m. Registration must be made in advance. Mt. Olivet dinner, auction
Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, High Street, Seaford, will hold its annual roast beef dinner and silent auction on Friday, Oct. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. Dinner will be served family style and take-outs will be available. Tickets will be sold at the door: adults, $8.50; students, $4.50; five and under, free.

Laurel Baptist Harvest Party
Laurel Baptist Church will have a Harvest Party on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m., with games, treats, a hayride and other activities. Sailor's Bethel Homecoming
Sailor's Bethel United Methodist Church in Bethel will celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. Guest singers will be the "Good News Sound" from Salisbury. The speaker will be a Bethel native and now author, the Rev. Dr. Luther Starnes. A beef and dumpling dinner will follow worship. For more information call 875-2713.

Christ Lutheran Oktoberfest
Christ Lutheran Church, located on the corners of Shipley and Spruce streets in Seaford, will be hosting an Oktoberfest on Sunday, Oct. 30. The festival is free to all and will begin at 1 p.m .and conclude at 4 p.m. Authentic German food, children's games, live music and entertainment will fill the day's schedule. Messiah's Vineyard guest
On Monday, Oct. 31, Dr. Fred Antonelli will be a special guest speaker at Messiah's Vineyard Church in Laurel. Service begins at 9:30 a.m. The Vineyard II Worship Team will be ministering, also. Everyone is invited.

St. Paul's hosts 'Quartet'
St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Laurel will be featuring the "Epworth Quartet" on Monday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. This singing group has traveled the eastern shore spreading the gospel through music for several years. Rev. Starnes is guest speaker
Laurel native Luther W. Starnes will speak at Sailor's Bethel United Methodist Church's Homecoming on Sunday, Nov. 6. The service is at 2 p.m. and everyone is invited. The Rev. Starnes has had a wide and varied career in ministry to the church and beyond. After several full-time pastorates in the Baltimore/Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church, he was appointed by his bishop to a high position in the Maryland Department of Human Resources, with responsibility for programs for children and families. During that time he served several churches and hosted the top-rated nightly "Luther Starnes Talk Show" on WBAL Radio in Baltimore. While serving Gary Memorial United Methodist Church in Ellicott City, Md., he ended his state career as secretary of the Department of Human Resources on the cabinet of former Gov. William Donald Schaefer, responsible for the state's public assistance, social services and family and child welfare programs. Starnes graduated from Laurel high School in 1954. He received a degree in history from Easter Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass., and a Master of Divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary of the United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C. In his 19th year as pastor of Gary Memorial, Starnes is the author of "A Christian's TV Guide," "What If He Asked You?" and "The River of Life and Other Poems." He and his wife, Joyce, the parents of four children and the grandparents of nine, live in Columbia, Md.

Mt. Olivet UMC homecoming
On Sunday, Nov. 13, Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Seaford will celebrate homecoming on its 175th anniversary. The Rev. Dr. Sandral Steiner Ball, Dover District Superintendent of the Peninsula Delaware Conference, will be the guest preacher at the services. Dr. Ball was appointed in 2001 after having served Kent Island Methodist Church and St. Luke's United Methodist Church in St. Michaels, Md. She now resides in Milford with her husband, Barry, and two daughters, Sarah and Becky. During the service those who have been members 50 years or more will be honored.

The Greater Love Quartet
The Greater Love Quartet, a southern gospel quartet from Virginia, will be in concert on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 6 p.m. at the Seaford Church of the Nazarene, 520 South Dual Highway, Seaford. Harvest of Hope Concert
Harvest of Hope Gospel Concert featuring many gospel groups and liturgical dancers will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 4 p.m. at Lifeway Church of God on Rt. 404, Bridgeville. This event is sponsored by Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church. Each person is asked to bring a canned good or nonperishable item to the concert.
