Governor's Prayer Breakfast May 3 The public is invited to attend the 52nd Annual Governor's Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, May 3, at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover. The focus of this year's event is "Compassion." The guest speaker will be author, pastor, and social activist Dr. Tony Campolo. The Modern Maturity Center is located at 1121 Forrest Ave., Dover. Doors open at 6:30 a.m., with the buffet breakfast beginning at 7. The program will begin promptly at 7:30 a.m. Tickets are $20 each or $200 for a table of 10. Ticket sales must be received no later than April 27.

Kids items accepted Little Grace "Newborn & Children's Closet" at Grace United Methodist Church, 7 S. King St., Georgetown, is accepting newborn and children's clothing as well as any baby and kids items any time. Drop them off at the church office or you can bring them to the closet when it is open on the first and third Thursday every month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call Diane Lockwood at 344-6380.

Awana Clubs at Alliance Church Awana clubs are being held at Atlanta Road Alliance Church on Wednesdays from 6:45 to 8:25 p.m., for children in Kindergarten through sixth grade. Sparks (K-second grade) ignites the curiosity of early elementary kids to learn about the people and events of the Bible, building a foundation of wisdom for knowing Christ. T&T (Truth & Training) engages third- through sixth-graders by answering their questions about God and the Bible, guiding them through this pivotal life stage to grow in Christ's grace. May Day at Epworth Christian Epworth Christian School in Laurel will hold May Day on Saturday, May 12. Applications are being accepted for craft vendors, independent consultants, etc. Cost is $50 for a 10x10 space. Tables and electric are available for an extra cost. Leadership conference The Leadercast Leadership Conference will be held at Laurel Wesleyan Church on Friday, May 4 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Ten world-renowned speakers including Andy Stanley, John Maxwell and Tim Tebow will be simulcast live via satellite from Atlanta, Ga. Gospel Café Gospel Cafe held every Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Laurel Baptist Church.

Conwell St. in Seaford, is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. A variety of infant, toddler, youth and adult clothing is available. Housewares, bedding and children's books are also available.

National Day of Prayer service The Ladies Auxiliary of Greenwood Memorial VFW Post 7478 and Area Coordinator Dr. Michaele S. Russell will sponsor a service for the National Day of Prayer at Hickory Ridge Congregational Church, Rt. 13, near Greenwood. The service will be held on Thursday, May 3 at 7 p.m. Pastor Wayne Sommers will be the keynote speaker and many other area pastors will offer prayers for our country. A free will offering for the National Day of Prayer task force will be taken during the event. The public is invited to attend. Prior to the evening's worship, there will be a Buddy Poppy Campaign. April Hymn Sing St. Paul's United Methodist Church invites the community to its April Hymn Sing at 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 29. Witness To Innocence speaker On Friday, May 4 at 7 p.m., the Social Justice Committee of Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach is hosting a presentation by Kirk Bloodsworth, the first exonerated death row prisoner from the Witness to Innocence Program. Open Mike Christian Night Open Mike Christian Night is held the first and third Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. through June, at the Lighthouse Church, 27225 Kaye Rd., just off Rt. 9, County Seat Highway, at Dukes Lumber Road. Bring your singing talents - CD or musical instruments. All singers and groups - young and old - are welcome. There are always a large array of singers lined up. GriefShare program offered Community members who have experienced the death of a family member or friend are invited to register for the GriefShare program held at St. John's United Methodist Church. This program features Christ-centered, biblical teaching that focuses on grief topics associated with the death of a loved one. You will find encouragement, comfort and help in grieving the death of a spouse, child, parent, sibling, other family member or friend. Robert Collins and his wife, the Rev. Danese Collins will lead the sessions. Both leaders have completed additional course work in counseling the bereaved and grieving.
