Community Day on May 19 Clarence St. Church of God will host its 8th Annual Community Day Event on Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This family-oriented community gathering promises plenty of fun, action, games and fellowship. Youth activities include face painting, a moon bounce, bean bag toss, potato sack races and a bicycle rodeo. For adults there will be a pie-eating contest, obstacle course, tug-of-war and an egg roll contest. Must be 21 and over to enter the egg roll contest. Entertainment includes praise dancers, step teams, singing, poetry, and contemporary gospel music. Food and beverages will be provided. Some giveaways and fun prizes will be provided. The Delaware State Police (Troop 5) and the Seaford Police Department will provide activities and special attractions. Public service representatives and public health organizations will set up exhibits and displays for public awareness and health information. This free event is open to the public. 'Balling For God' The Youth Outreach Team of New Zion United Methodist Church is hosting its 8th Annual 'Balling for God' Basketball Tournament and Community Awareness Day on Saturday, June 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Webb Avenue in Laurel (by Paul Laurence Dunbar Elementary School). Teams are now forming; age brackets are 6-8, 9-11, 12-14, and 15-18. To enter a team, contact Sherita Belle at 853-2861. Vendor space is also available but limited. Homecoming Choir in concert The Homecoming Choir of Mt. Calvary A.M.E. Church in Concord will be in concert at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 19 at Harmony United Methodist Church in Millsboro. Also featured will be India Thomas, liturgical dancer, of East New Market, Md. The concert will benefit the building fund.

GriefShare program offered Community members who have experienced the death of a family member or friend are invited to register for the GriefShare program held at St. John's United Methodist Church. This program features Christ-centered, biblical teaching that focuses on grief topics associated with the death of a loved one. You will find encouragement, comfort and help in grieving the death of a spouse, child, parent, sibling, other family member or friend. Robert Collins and his wife, the Rev. Danese Collins will lead the sessions. Both leaders have completed additional course work in counseling the bereaved and grieving. GriefShare will be held on Wednesdays in the Wesley Lounge of St. John's United Methodist Church. To register or for questions, call 629-9466. Child care is not provided.

Seaford Nazarene welcomes pastor Seaford Nazarene Church will have a day of celebration after their 11 a.m. service on Sunday, May 20. A celebration buffet will be served in honor of their new pastor, Larry Whaley. Installation of Pastor Whaley will be by the district superintendent of the Nazarene Church, Dr. Ken Mills at 2 p.m. Pastor Whaley and his wife Stacie are both natives of Laurel. They graduated from Laurel Senior High School and are well known in the area. They have two daughters, Dakota and Makenli and a son, Luke. Seaford Nazarene Church is located on Rt. 13 South, next to the Guide. Come and join us during this happy occasion. Memorial Day Gospel Concert A Memorial Day Gospel Concert will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 28, at the Federalsburg Marina Park Pavilion in Federalsburg, Md. Featured artists include the Pine Ridge Boys from Lawrenceville, Ga., Bay City from Bel Air, Md. and Judy Laramore. Bring a chair and a friend. Concessions will be available and a love offering will be received.

Open Mic Christian Night Open Mic Christian Night is held the first and third Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Lighthouse Church, 27225 Kaye Rd., just off Rt. 9, County Seat Highway, at Dukes Lumber Road, through June. Bring your singing talents - CD or musical instruments. All singers and groups - young and old - are welcome. There are always a large array of singers lined up. May Hymn Sing St. Paul's United Methodist Church invites the community to its May Hymn Sing at 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 20. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. Featured program will be presented by the Don Murray Family with their special guest, Jason Hamilton and the St. Paul's Church choir. Itzels to perform The singing group Bill & Karen Itzel will perform at Delmar Wesleyan Church on Sunday, May 20, during the 11 a.m. worship service. There will be a love offering taken for their music ministry. The church is located at 800 E. East St., Delmar, Md.

Chicken and dumpling dinner The women of the Woodland United Methodist Church will serve a chicken and dumpling dinner on Saturday, May 19 at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $10; children 6 to 12 are $4; 5 and under are free. Gospel Cafe Gospel Cafe held every Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Laurel Baptist Church. Free Christian entertainment, live bands, local talent. The church is located at 33056 Bi-State Blvd., Laurel.

Thrift Shop open Saturdays St. John's Thrift Shop located at 259 N. Conwell St. in Seaford, is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. A variety of infant, toddler, youth and adult clothing is available. Housewares, bedding and children's books are also available.

Kids items accepted Little Grace 'Newborn & Children's Closet' at Grace United Methodist Church, 7 S. King St., Georgetown, is accepting newborn and children's clothing as well as any baby and kids items any time. Drop them off at the church office or you can bring them to the closet when it is open on the first and third Thursday every month, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call Diane Lockwood at 344-6380.

Awana Clubs at Alliance Church Awana clubs are being held at Atlanta Road Alliance Church on Wednesdays from 6:45 to 8:25 p.m., for children in Kindergarten through sixth grade. Sparks (K-second grade) ignites the curiosity of early elementary kids to learn about the people and events of the Bible, building a foundation of wisdom for knowing Christ. T&T (Truth & Training) engages third- through sixth-graders by answering their questions about God and the Bible, guiding them through this pivotal life stage to grow in Christ's grace.
