Jerry Jones and Earl Hoopes win prestigious music awards Jerry Jones and Earl Hoopes, both residents of Seaford and members of the Country Gospel Music Association in Branson, Mo., attended the CGMA Eastern United States Convention in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., recently and each came away with prestigious awards. Jones, chairman of the local chapter of the Country Gospel Music Association, was awarded 'Male Vocalist of the Year' and 'Songwriter of the Year' for the eastern United States. This is the second year in a row Jones has received these awards. There were about 30 artists in each category. He is known in the gospel music industry for his song 'Calvary' that reached number four on the International Country Gospel Chart in May 2005. He has been singing and writing gospel music for only the past two years, since he became a Christian at the age of 56. Hoopes, also a local gospel music artist, received the award for 'New Male Vocalist' for the Eastern United States for 2005 from the Country Gospel Music Association in Pigeon Forge. He plans to become a full time gospel artist in the near future. He contributes his singing ability and the receipt of his award to the Lord, as does Jones. Jones and Hoopes will attend the International CGMA Convention to be held in Branson in October to be in line for the international awards in their respective categories. Both men enjoy singing for local churches as well as for benefits and concerts.
