Lightning Strikes concert series The Lightning Strikes concert series, at The Lighthouse Church, located at 27225 Kaye Rd., just off Rt. 9, County Seat Highway at Dukes Lumber Road, Laurel, is held every second and fourth Saturday of the month. Indoor yard sale An indoor yard sale will be held at Christ the Cornerstone Church (located at the corner of Bethel and Seaford roads) on Saturday, Feb. 23 from 7 a.m. until. There will be scrapple sandwiches, hot dogs and baked goods. For table space, call 875-5415.

Salvation Army offers new program The Salvation Army Sussex Chapel has begun a new program this year, Music & Moore for area second and third graders. The goal of the program is to help improve reading skills through Mission: Literacy, a Christian based reading program designed to reinforce reading skills learned at school. Students will also have an opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument (cornet) and to read music (theory). Events at All Saint's Church All Saint's Episcopal Church located at 10th and Grove streets in Delmar is offering the following events: Lenten Worship, Fellowship, Study - On Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. the church is offering an Order of Worship followed by a soup supper, a DVD presentation and discussion on the topic, "Revisiting the Roots of the Judeo-Christian Tradition." Feb. 20, The First Creation Story; Feb. 27, The Second Creation Story; March 6, An Overview of Ancient Israelite History; March 13, The Flood Story; and March 20, Covenant. Marriage video series Marriage can be the source of our greatest success or our greatest failure. Christ's Church of New Hope wants to help you build a strong marriage with a four part video series, "Making the Most of Your Marriage," by Dr. John Maxwell. Writing group Kingdom Writers Fellowship (KWF), a Christian group of aspiring writers, is welcoming new members. Oyster sandwiches for sale Concord United Methodist Church is holding a sale on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Besides oyster sandwiches, they will also have hot dogs, homemade pies & drinks for sale. Open Mike Christian Night Open Mike Christian Night will be held the first and third Friday of the month from 7 to 9 p.m., at The Lighthouse Church, located at 27225 Kaye Rd., just off Rt. 9, County Seat Highway at Dukes Lumber Road.

Awana Clubs at Alliance Church Awana Clubs are being held at Atlanta Road Alliance Church on Wednesday evenings from 6:45 to 8:25 p.m. for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Chinese Auction at St. Philip's The annual Chinese Auction at Laurel's St. Philip's Episcopal Church will be held on Thursday, Feb. 23, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Episcopal Churchwomen and is under the leadership of Geraldine Taylor. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. There will be three types of chili, hot dogs, beverages and a wide variety of inexpensive sweet treats. The auction will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Children's items, along with many good, used items will be offered for auctioning. There will be something for everyone. Special home baked sweet treats will also be auctioned. This includes homemade pies, cookies, cornbread and more. All proceeds benefit the parish. The public is encouraged to attend the event which promises to be a fun evening for everyone at very affordable prices.

Youth conference in Ocean City Approximately 3,000 high school students and youth leaders are invited to experience a high-energy weekend complete with national speakers, musicians, and entertainers at the Impact 2013: Beneath the Surface Youth Conference, March 22-24, at the Ocean City Convention Center. Lenten fish dinners Lenten fish dinners will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Hall, Stein Highway, Seaford on Fridays, February 15, February 22, March 1, March 8, March 15, and March 22. Time is 4:30 to 7 p.m. Cost is $9.

Hymn Sing features Sounds of Joy St. Paul's UMC Church invites the community to join us for a night of worship at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24. This month's Hymn Sing will feature the music ministry of The Sounds of Joy from the Laurel area. The Sounds of Joy are a Southern Gospel Group well known throughout Delmarva for their beautiful harmony, inspirational songs and skilled guitarists. Chinese Auction rescheduled The Chinese Auction scheduled to be held in February at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Laurel has been postponed until November. The committee regrets this change and looks forward to your support this fall.
