October Fest at Cornerstone October Fest at Christ the Cornerstone Community Church, located on the corner of Bethel and Seaford roads, Laurel, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 7 a.m. until. There will be scrapple sandwiches, oyster fritters, soup and sandwiches, a baked goods table, vendor space available for crafts and a yard sale. For more information, all 875-5415.

Church reunion, yard sale The 94th annual family reunion and covered dish dinner of the descendants of the Wheatley's who settled in the north Dorchester area of Dorchester County, Md., during the 1700s, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, at Wheatley's United Methodist Church and church hall. Entertainment will be by Blue Crab Crossing Band. The church will hold a yard sale, breakfast and luncheon at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12. Lunch will be available after 11 a.m. Outdoor spaces for yard items are $5 and $10. There will be oyster sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, soup and baked goods for sale to benefit the church. The church is located at the intersection of Wheatley Church Road and Sharptown Road (MD313) between Sharptown and Eldorado, Md.

Homecoming at Trinity Trinity UMC on Phillips Hill Road near Trap Pond in Laurel will celebrate 140 years of ministry in Laurel with a Homecoming Celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29. Former pastor, the Rev. Paul Isaacs will be the guest speaker with music from All 4 Him and others during the service. Testimonies will be shared and a history video will be shown. Many former pastors have been invited and all former members and current friends are invited to share in this monumental celebration with us. A time of food and fellowship will follow the service with a love offering to help with the cost of the food. All are welcome in the love and name of Jesus Christ.

Christ UMC fundraiser Christ United Methodist Church's Men of Faith will hold an all-you-can-eat Chicken 'n Dumpling fundraiser dinner, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the church located at 510 S. Central Ave., Laurel. Dinner platters include chicken and dumplings, mashed potatoes, dressing, green beans, rolls, a dessert and a beverage (coffee, tea or water). Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children. Children 5 and under eat free. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. Guests can eat in or carry out. Pickups will be available beginning at 2 p.m. on Sept 28. Large carryout orders (six or more) can be picked up before 2, but should be placed in advance by calling the church office at 875-4233. Christian Writer's Conference Vine & Vessels Christian Writers Fellowship will host its 5th Annual 2013 "Connecting Pen To Purpose" Christian Writer's Conference on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Crossroad Community Church, Georgetown. National speaker, conference director, author, Marlene Bagnull, Litt.D will serve as the keynote speaker. Conference rates are $20 for youth (ages 10-18), $40 for adults (19-61) and $25 for seniors (62+). Registration packet includes two workshops, continental breakfast and lunch. Lightning Strikes concert series The Lightning Strikes concert series, at The Lighthouse Church, located at 27225 Kaye Rd., just off Rt. 9, County Seat Highway at Dukes Lumber Road, Laurel, is held every second and fourth Saturday of the month. MOPs group at Laurel Wesleyan The Laurel Wesleyan Church MOPs group invites all mothers of children from birth through age 5 to join our community of mothers as we learn, have fun, and support one another during this important season of life. Child care is provided. Annual Community Picnic The Ark, Seaford Wesleyan Church, 26630 Sussex Highway, Seaford, will be having their annual Community Picnic on Sunday, Sept. 29, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Church members invite everyone to join them for a day of worship, fellowship and praise by the Crossroads Christian Band and the Seaford Wesleyan Church worship team.

There will be free food, cotton candy, games, bouncies, corn hole, hayrides and much more. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event. Bring a lawnchair. Call 628-1020 with questions.

Annual Men's Day Ross Point Freedom Church will celebrate the Annual Men's Day celebration on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. Guest preacher will be the Rev. Johnny Woods from Community Christian Worship Center, Dover. Ross Point Freedom Church is located at 10016 Concord Rd., Seaford.

Open Mic Christian Night Open Mic Christian Night is the first and third Friday of every month from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Lighthouse Church located at 27225 Kaye Rd., just off Rt. 9, County Seat Highway at Dukes Lumber Road. Writers group Have you always wanted to write stories, articles or a book, but didn't know how to begin? Have you drafted some manuscripts, but need help getting them published? Whether you are a novice or professional, you are invited to join Kingdom Writers Fellowship. This group meets monthly on the third Tuesday evening at Grace Baptist Church in Seaford. Animal Blessing at St. Mary's St. Mary's Episcopal Church will hold a blessing of the animals on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. Bring your special four-legged friend(s) to be blessed. All are welcome. Visit the church during Apple Scrapple in Bridgeville on Saturday, Oct. 12. There will be Civil War re-enactors on the church grounds; a quilt display in the church; and the church's Annual Chili Luncheon with chili, chicken salad, hot dogs, BBQ chipped ham, plus baked goods table in the parish hall with indoor seating and restrooms.

Events at Old Christ Church Dr. Jeffrey Schoyen, cellist, returns on Saturday, Oct. 5, along with his wife, violinist Dr. Sachiho Murasugi, for a special concert. Dr. Schoyen and Dr. Murasugi are Salisbury University faculty members who perform widely as orchestral and chamber musicians. The concert is free and open to the public. Donations will be used for the restoration and preservation of Old Christ Church in Laurel. The Rev. Dr. Howard Backus will preside at Old Christ Church's annual Blessing of the Animals service on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m.. All pet and farm animals are welcome. Small animals - cats, dogs, and animals in cages or carriers - may come in to the church and stay for the short service and blessing. After the service, Father Backus will bless the larger animals who have been patiently waiting in the churchyard. There will be a free will offering taken for the benefit of animal aid causes, including Changing Fates Equine Rescue on Chipman's Pond Road in Laurel. For more information, call 875-3644.

Family fun at St. Stephens St. Stephens United Methodist Church will hold a Fall Festival at the church on State Street in Delmar on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be oyster fritter sandwiches by the King family, craft vendors, a yard sale, bake sale, live music by the Kings Ambassadors, homemade ice cream, a petting zoo, barrel train, hayrides and children's crafts. St. Stephens is sponsoring a Christmas Tree in State Street Park this year. The tree will have about 5,000 lights which are $5 each in honor or memory of the loved ones in your life. Hymn Sing at St. Paul's St. Paul's UMC Church in Laurel invites the community to a night of music on Sunday, Sept. 29. This month's Hymn Sing features local television personality Charlie Papparella with the unique style of The Olive String Band. A love offering will be taken to benefit their ministry. Doors open at 5 p.m. Live music begins at 5:15 until 6, when the featured group will present their program. The program ends at 8.
