Christ Evangelistic Church celebrating 40th anniversary Christ Evangelistic Church, 9802 Camp Road, Laurel, will be celebrating 40 years as a church with special services. Services are scheduled for Friday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. with special speaker Ken Cowan. Pastor Roland Tice spent three and one-half years as a Methodist minister before leaving to start an independent work. Leading a Friday night prayer group of from 25 to 30 people, Tice decided to hold the first church service in the sanctuary of Gruwells Funeral Home (now Cranstons Funeral Home) on Feb. 3, 1974. The first Sunday morning 78 people attended and by the third week, there were 100 in attendance. By 1975 the sanctuary of the new church was built and at that time about 200 were attending the church. That number grew to just over 300 and a lot of good memories, Tice said. Today, 40 years later, there are still a couple hundred people attending the church to hear from the 76-year-old pastor. Everyone is encouraged to come out and help Christ Evangelistic Church celebrate its 40th anniversary. Annual Valentines Program The children of Mt.
